System is Win XP SP2, Athlon 2400, 512 DDR Ram. Have run spyware scans and virus scans, system was clean. Hardware diagnostics were done. When the system is started up It loads to the point where the taskbar and background quite fast but then it takes an additional 30-45 seconds for the icons to load. I've weeded out uneccessary crap with MSCONFIG, tried a repair install, system file check etc. Any ideas as to what may cause this symptom because I'm out of ideas. Oh yea, once the icons load the system runs great.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Try BootVis to find the culprit.

(*Disclaimer* Bootvis was removed by Micro$$oft from it's site due to improper use, so don't do anything with it you aren't sure of)

Issue resolved. The problem went away when I discovered that this PC had WalMart Connect installed 2times. When I removed the duplicate installs the issue fixed itself. Weird thing is there wasn't anything at all that showed up in any startup list manager program that showed WalMart connect was starting with the system. No sys tray icon, nothing in MSCONFIG checked etc. Anyways, more or less stumbled on the solution myself but Thanks for refering the app you linked me to. I wasn't aware of its existance.

    Thanks again...

    That's OK, you're welcome. I'm glad it's resolved.

heh, partially resolved. As soon as I reinstall the crap ISP software it does same thing all over again. Atleast I know the culprit even though I can't find a reason why it causes the slow icon loading.

Why do you have to install the ISP software?

If you have an ISP modem, then just explore the CD and install the driver only.

Because it's WalMart connect and is basically like AOL and the end user can't function on the internet without a candy coated user interface loaded with crap. ;)

    Not familiar with Walmart.

Have you checked that it's completely uninstalled before installing it again?

OK, Issue resolved for real this time. 1st of all consider yourself lucky for not having dealt with WalMart Connect....It's like AOL with a 10th of the functionality and 10 times the headaches. But anyway, uninstalled thoroughly. Went thru registry etc. The issue was finally resolved by disabling the ethernet port on the motherboard which the end user doesn't need anyways. Doesn't make much sense but it works.
