   special software to make icons from our pictures in jpeg, gif, etc.
   It seems like there would be an EASY way to do this through Windows.
   Any suggestions?

   Yeeahh, save the picture as a BMP file using paint, but use the extension .ico instead of .bmp . As long as its the correct size (32x32) you should be okay.
