Hello, I am a newbie to the site. Hopefully someone will be able to help. I have a few IDE HDD's that are just sat doing nothing at the moment. Instead of buying multiple IDE ext HDD case's I was wondering if any1 could recommend an ext case that holds more than one (downside to IDE drives). I don’t want to get rid as they are pretty decent size and good for storage or hopefully home network use. Much appreciated in advance:confused

    Welcome to Major Geeks.
Not my territory of expertise, but you posted in a section where many people monitor.
Someone that can answer you should be along eventually.
    Hang in there.

    Hey there,

Dont know what others will reccommend, but be aware that the enclosure's especially the ones with out a fan do get very hot. I suspect this aids in shortening Hard disk life cycle. I have had good brands and two from the same batch / time, the one in the enclosure lasted just after the warranty the one in the p.c is still going.

Also you can buy internal housing that slot into your CD/DVD drive bays if this is an option, this stops the usb drives getting knocked of the p.c buy things like pets wagging tails, or vacume cleaners accidentally getting caught in the cables..g.grief.. Hint a bit of valcro works well for external drives..

If you have the space to put in more Hard Drives but lack the EIDE connections you could purchase quite cheaply a PCI EIDE Controller Card slot that into one of your PCI slots buy an extra ribbon and away you go. Also as necro61 said if you can do with just one DVD/CD ROM take out the rom and your Hard drive will fit in there by lining the screw holes up. ;)

    PCI Card like this http://www.cablesonline.net/pcieidconcar.html

Many thanks for the advice / info guys. I would prefer to keep them outside the machine but if not possible then the cards recommended will fill that gap:)
