    Dear all

I'm so confused and I hope someone can help me..

I had to reformat my Win XP desktop due to a virus and I am now trying to reconnect to my Tiscali (now Talk Talk) broadband connection.
I have a laptop wirelessly connected, so I am able to send this message.

My ethernet port is not recognised (Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T adapter copper RJ-45), so I have removed the RJ-45 cable and I am trying to connect using a Belkin wireless G adapter through a USB port.

I am thinking that once I am online, I will find the driver fot the ethernet port and all will be as it was.

My Belkin adapter finds my modem and tries to connects 'trying to find network address', but then says' not connected - firewalled'. It flicks on and off like this every second.

I have disabled my AVG and also the windows firewall, but still keep getting the message.

The stupid thing is that I have done this a bout three times before over the last 3 years and spend all day trying to solve the problem before it finally comes to me...but I can never remember how I did it! If I can get it sorted out this time, I will write it down :-o

    Hi

It is very likely that with re-installing that you are now missing some crucial drivers, mainly the Chipset and the LAN (ethernet) drivers.

Do you have a USB pen drive? if so download the drivers you need on your laptop and copy them to USB and copy them to the desktop and you will be away, dont need to download drivers from the machine that needs them.

Do you know what "exact" driver you need? as some OEM makers have specific varients on the likes of the Marvell Yukon driver, so if your PC is from DELL, HP etc what model is it and if its a home build then what motherboard make and model is it?

Wouldnt be this thread we worked on together was it http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=174383 back in 2008 and same PC? If so then the driver page has moved to HERE at Gigabyte

Grab the drivers you need and look in Device Manager to look for any yellow ! marks as tha will highlight missing ones, then download on your laptop the Chipset and LAN at least (get the latest dated ones) then transfer to your Desktop and install the Chipset first and reboot (important to reboot) then install the LAN and reboot and see how you go.

    Idiot responds to self...

Just found a question I posted 18 months ago here which ended with a solution.

Before anyone wastes time on me, just going to try reloading Windows and then loading drivers before any other software....:-o

    Hi

Fair enough on re-install again, but remember the drivers page from that old thread I linked to in that thread has now moved and is now in the link I left above to Gigabyte.

Hey not wasting my time at all, glad that the old thread helped, copy and paste the two links to these threads into a notepad file so you can easily find them again, or if you come back to the forum, just click your user name in the list of members online and choose Stats and choose Find all threads started by billandhelen and it will list all the ones you started.

Have a good weekend and glad all fixed.
