Idiot-proof anti-malware program?

What (if any) software does a good job of blocking malware for novice PC users?

I get several PCs brought into my shop each week for virus and malware removal. Most have a current, updated copy of McAfee, Norton, MSE or a similar respected AV program installed.

While I know new malware shows up daily and cannot always be caught by an outdated database, it seems most of what I remove has been around for months or even years. Some of the top offenders include browser hijackers (Conduit, etc.), Freebie traps (Shop To Win, Rebate Informer, etc.), bogus cleaning programs (PC Optimizer Pro) and the Moneypack scam.

I've tested stopping or opting out of suspicious extras when downloading something "free" in Windows 7 with MSE installed. On most malware, it seems that attempting to opt-out or stop installation is impossible unless you "CTRL+ALT+DEL" out and restart the PC.

I have one client who - even with Malware Bytes Pro installed - still manages to reinfect his PC on a regular basis.

I'm looking for an inexpensive program I can offer my clients that does a good job of flagging and blocking malware before it has a chance to wreck havoc.

Any opinions or tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have been using Privatefirewall for about a year and it catches numerous changes and alerts about unknown processes.
Even something like an updated installation program stored on a second internal hard drive produces an alert at boot time.
And that is with all of the additional advanced Process Monitoring and Anomaly Detection disabled.

You will have to do the configuration yourself and tell them how to deal with the alerts.
I no longer use Malwarebytes Anti-malware Real Time Protection as it now seems unnecessary and there were conflicts between
the anti-virus, firewall and MB that could not be adequately resolved.

I know that you realize that nothing will be 100% - not with those people.

AVG does a pretty dam good job at keeping the nasty's off my system.

The Pro version might cost a little more but it is worth it the firewall works pretty good if you ask me.

How often you see me on the malware fourms very little may be once in a full moon.Or all most never.

The main problem i see here is that people don't spend the time to set the malware or Antivirus scanners to scan on there own.

Like for instance i have my system on 24/7 and every night i am at work or sleeping it scans on auto.

Hey gman, you know and I know that MSE, Avast, AVG, BitDefender, MBAM, SAS, Emsisoft, just to name a few, are only as good as the practices that are used by people, especially those who constantly don't use common sense, or practice safe surfing. So really, it's a coin toss, pick the one you prefer, the they need to change their surfing habits if they really want any assurance at all. Web surfing education, and caution is the best form of security. :)

The problem is not with the software, it is the end user. You cannot stop stupid from using a computer, and screwing it up. I would set a rule, that if the computer is in your shop more than three times, for malware cleaning, you will no longer service their machine, unless it is hardware failure, not due to the idiot going places they should not be, or opening every email or link they get on Facebook or Twitter.

Me i would charge them more for the cleaning if they are that stupid. It is mainly there own fault not the computer.

I would not care how many times it is in the shop hey if they are the ones willing to pay for the cleaning then charge them more if it is in the shop more then three times.Kinda ridiculous if you ask me.I can go to bad sites and still not get nasty virus or malware.Mainly be cause i have it set so it blocks and scans every night.
