Hi Guys, My name is Ray and i'm new to the forum. I have 3 pc's running W98, XP and Vista. I've noticed on my W98 using IE 6 that all graphic images show up with a box with a small red x in the upper left hand corner. Not sure why. Also I'm thinking of upgrading it to W 2000, and Office 2000, anyone know of any pitfalls in doing this. (losing drivers, etc.) Appreciate any feedback on this, not really a hardware guy. Thanks, Ray

Well, the feasibility of upgrading does depend on the hardware; it has to be powerful enough to run Windows and the programs you'll be running. Right click on My Computer and select Properties. You should see the processor speed and amount of memory shown there. To see the size of the hard drive, open My Computer, right click on drive C and select Properties.

Check on this to see if it fixes your IE picture problem. Open IE, click on Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and then look under the heading "Multimedia" and make sure that the box in front of "Show Pictures" is checked and that the feature shows it is turned ON.

In addition to checking that your Win98 hardware meets the minimum specs for Win 2000 you'll have to check each piece of hardware to see if there are Win2000 drivers available for them. Your sound card, graphics card, motherboard hardware devices, printer(s), modem or network adapters, etc etc. There may be a website that has automated this process and can scan your system and tell you quickly which of your hardware devices have Win 2K drivers and which don't.

    Good luck!

This might be a problem with your Temporary Internet Files. Clearing your Temporary Internet files might resolve this issue. To clear your Temporary Internet Files:

Internet Explorer 6 and earlier versions
    1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    2. On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet files.
    3. Click to select the Delete all offline content check box, and then click OK.
    4. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.

    Hope that helps. :)

Give the brand and model of the computer running 98SE.
I had one computer everytime I tried to upgrade from 98SE to 2K, the screen blacked out. I discovered I needed a BIOS update. I did that and am happy to say, I have 2K safely installed but first, I checked to see if I could find drivers for everything.
