IE 6.1 won't display any web pages

Hi everyone, I'm a newbee on this forum. I hope you can help or at least give some advice since I'm stuck. I tried to find similar cases but didn't.

Case: Compaq NX9000, WinXP Pro SP1 with all critical updates, IE 6 sp1, --- when using windowsupdate -> Dialog prompts for open or save HTM file, if you try to open - nothing happens and window closes. If you save - the file is saved but same thing happens in IE. On some files you vil get an error saying the file can't open.

Similar problem using Help. You can see the index but not the text itself.

It seems like IE having problem displaying web pages.

I have tried this:
- removing and reinstall of IE 6 sp1
- reinstallation of XP sp1
- used Ad-Aware, ref file of 07-27-2004 (in safe mode)
- used Antivirus software, Norman with newest definition files
- microsoft technet and knowledge base
- Systemfile control tool
- Hijack This

If you have any ideas, it would be nice. It don't look like it's some spyware or trojan/virus but who can really tell.

It looks more like some problems with internet caching or some dll file important to view htm and html files, went missing or corrupt.

Maybe some dynamite will do ?

Sorted it out myself.

Solution.

Take away every single instance of Internet explorer in the HKLM Key. Find the IE4uninit.inf and install, delete internet explorer folder under
%PROGRAMFILES%. Reboot, reinstall IE6.

While this may have worked for you, I would like to note to anyone who reads this thread that this solution can seriously bork your machine. IE is integrated into the OS and ripping it out is very risky.
