    Hi

    First time here, so hello..:)

Anyhow... I have a very strange problem which has stumped me.

Windows XP with SP2 plus all the rest of M$oft's hot fixes.

Now the PC logs onto the net... anti virus can update.. I can ping web sites...

If I run IE6 it opens.. and the just sits there... the hour glass appears and the flag in the top right hand corner flutters as if to indicate "I'm off somewhere.." but nothing happens....

I have reset all Internet options to default and disabled fire walls.... Still it refuses to cruise the net..

NOW.... this is the wierd one..... If I install Firefox or SeaMonkey :D (All Hail The Monkey!!!!) .... it works a treat.. I can cruise the net... no problems.. just won't work with IE...

I have unistalled IE and reinstalled... reapplied SP2... run an IE fix that resets the securities... run M$ofts protected files checker... still nothing...

I realise the easiest option is to stick 2 fingers up to IE and move to Firefox etc... but its just annoying me why it doesn't work...

    Does anyone have any ideas....

    Much appreciated....

    Solution # 1
    Download the following utilities:

    Microsoft RegClean 4.1a Build 7364.1

    Reg Supreme 1.4

    IE FIX 1.5

Run each of these utilities in the order listed, try IE after each one to see if it works. If it does not go to the next solution.

    Solution # 2

Click Start > Run > Type in

    sfc /scannow

You may be prompted for your WinXP disc, if you have it then insert it if not them procede to the next solution.

    Solution # 3

To rule out malware as a possible problem, run the steps listed in the thread below and then attempt to try IE once more. If it still does not come up then create a thread in the Malware Forum with your logs stating you have ran the READ ME and I will rule out malware.

Okay! If Solution 1 does not work then I will take you to the Malware Forum to rule out malware. Let me know how solution 1 goes and we will go from there.

What internet connection do you have? Cable? DSL? Dialup? If Cable/DSL have you tried IE in Safe Mode w/ Networking?

If you run this, I only recommend running the Cleaner as the Issues scan has been known to cause issues with different software applications. It's up to you whether you do it or not but I wouldn't recommend it. If you run Reg Supreme it will address everything you need addressing as far as issues.

  7. not the latest update, theres been NO problems with CCleaner as im active on their forum daily.
if there is, they should report it to that forum.
im just curious though, where did you hear this?

I have heard it from many users, not only online but around the city who I recommend CCleaner to. I have experienced many issues personally running the "Issues" tab in CCleaner. Most problems I experienced was Java related however I have had other issues with software affected from the scan. Since then I have not ran nor recommended this scan. They make Reg Cleaners that does the job best.

    Thanks for all your replies.....

As you may have noticed I haven't replied recently....

Well I ran the reg cleaner.... rebooted.... and nothing.... I mean nothing... not booting....

I assume something was removed in the clean that has upset my PC....

Fortunatley I've been in IT log enough to have all my docs on a seperate partion....

BUT not to worry,... it just forced an issue.... What we used to called the 3 F's... Fdisk...Format.... F'Reinstall.......

Kinda annoyed cause I really wanted to find the reason why IE flattly refused.... BUt at least I know the PC is malware... fault... virus free..well at least it was until I connected to the internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Many thanks again....
