I'm working with a XP home
    IE 6

    Here's the problem
When I click on Tools then options I get a box with a red X that says
"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this
computer. Please contact your system administrator." This is a home computer and I am the only one using it. I ran Norton virus scan and found nothing. Can anyone help? Thanks

I don't really have an answer to this. I believe it is owner.

actually no I don't have to click on anything to log on. It goes to a welcome screen and then the desktop appears

You need to be able to login as 'Administrator' - do you know how to do that?

Whoever installed XP on this machine should be able to tell you what the password is.

I was able to work with HP online support last night and the problem was actually in the registry. In policies - nobrowseroptions. They helped me get rid of it and it works now. If any one would like to have this explained better I will post again. HP said spyware probably made the setting. I had run spybot but it did not catch it. Any way , it is fixed. Thanks for your help though.
