IE 6 won't allow setting of homepage

Hi,
Microsoft.com has become my homepage and under tools the buttons are faded and can not be changed. I have run the malware removal programs w/o finding anything but tracking cookies. Can anyone help?

I have moved this to software as it is more than likely a setting from either your anti-virus software or an anti-spyware program ( SAS or spybot, etc.).

Why are you still using IE 6? IE 7 has was released quite a long time ago and is more secure than IE 6.

If I were you i'd get Firefox 3, it's faster than IE 7 you can get it here: http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

It's also free, technically you pay for IE along with windows LOL

But if you must stay with IE you can get IE7 using windows update. Just upen up an IE webpage, click tools, windows update & follow the update procedure

Could be the OP is running a version of windows that doesn't allow IE 7. I do. I run windows 2000, which is still supported until July 14, 2009 but will not allow IE 7 to be installed. Yes MS still patches IE 6. I got my most recent patch in Dec. 2008.

Sue548l, what version of windows are you running? What security programs are you running? Some have settings that if checked, won't allow changes to the home page.

Thanks for the advice - I've solved the issue. When I ran super anti spy a second time it picked up "homepage.hijack" once I removed that everything was OK. Also, running IE6 because the business software I run doesn't like IE7.
