I think this might be related to a problem another user posted today but I didn't want to add to his in case this is entirely different.

I have a HP Pavilion Pentium 4 256RAM 60GB drive with Windows XP Home SP2 installed. I am having a few problems with IE

    1) I am not able to get any more Windows updates from Microsoft because when it goes to install ActiveX and the bar comes down the only selection I am offered is "Information Bar Help". So the installation can not be started.

    2) Using login accounts like Yahoo when I enter the username and password and click to login the next screen I get is the "this page can not be displayed".

Oh I also can not lower my security settings from Medium. When I try it gives me an error message that says something like "your security settings are set at medium and can not be lowered".

I have been in contact with Microsoft on this and they had me try several settings in IE like putting 3 Microsofts update sites into the trusted list. They had me go into start and run and do a regsvr32 to reinstall the dll's which all but the jscript.dll gave me the error LoadLibrary
("jscript.dll")failed - The specific module could not be
    found"

Does anyone here have any ideas to help me get this resolved? I would appreciate any help I can get.

Are you logged in as a limited user or an admin?

Also, in IE. Tools, Internet Options, then select the security tab, next click on the "Custom Level" button.

Under: Active X controls and plugins
    - Automatic prompting for activeX controls (is this enabled or disabled)? If enabled, select disabled, then, OK, OK.

Restart IE, then windows updates again.

Thanks for helping. I am logged in as Administrator. I tried your suggestion but even though I disabled it I still get the alert dropping down but the only item to select when I right click is the "Information Bar Help".

    Any thoughts?

You can expand jscript.dll from the WinXP cd or from the i386 folder on your hard drive.

Insert the WinXP cd inside the cd drive, cancel the setup, then go to Start > Run > cmd and hit enter. Type the line below. Note: here X: shows your cd drive letter and C: shows your system drive letter, change it according to your needs.

    expand X:\i386\JSCRIPT.DL_ C:\Windows\system32\jscript.dll (hit enter)

It will copy the jscript.dll file to the original location, now you can register it.

Here is a list of other things to try, you may have tried some of them. There might be some .dll's in there you haven't tried so watch for that also.

Steve, thank you so much for your help. I can now get my updates perfectly fine now. There is something I should mention. In your step by step, on number 8 where I select Internet and then click on the default button, both the custom and default buttons are greyed out consequently I can not select either and I still can not change my security level below medium. Any thoughts?

    Thanks again, Steve.

    Steve,

Sorry it took so long to get back on this but, anyway, I did try the link and followed through to reinstall the tabs. It certainly was a good suggestion but it didn't work either.

I still get under the IE Security tab under Internet where I can not adjust the Security Level from Medium to Low. It gives me the error that it is set for medium and can not be lowered. Also, the Default and Custom buttons are greyed out.

No suprise here but Microsoft support can not help with this either, lol.

    Thanks again,
    Craig
