ie and pc crashing

hi

i've had a pc for a year or so without any problems
i always update my norton antivirus firewall and windows xp
about 4 days ago internet explorer crashed a few times
i did'nt think too much of it then my pc crashed restarted crashed again
i was getting this error report
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini071604-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\john\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml
so i reformatted
halfway through installing windows it stopped
so i started over as soon as windows installed it showed me the same error
all seemed fine for a day then internet explorer started crashing again
and then my pc started crashing ( not as much as before )
i did a search on google and it seems alot of ppl have had this problem
but i have not found a solution

i have windows xp home
msi 645e max mainboard
nvidia ti4200 graph card
768 mb ram
and i have'nt installed or downloaded anything recently

any help would be appreciated

Have you taken a look at your hardware tempratures lately? Might be a heat related problem.

 

i checked for overheating everything seems fine

i took another look on google and someone suggested deleting everything in the minidump file
it worked ie dont crash no more but now my games crash instead
anyother ideas guy's?

 

Are you still getting the sysdata.xml error?

Delete this entire directory if it still exists:
C:\DOCUME~1\john\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\

Have you installed the latest chipset drivers for your mobo and latest video drivers?

 

i formatted again last night put new agp,chipset,graph.soundcard drivers on

as soon as i start playing a game it runs like a dog
then freezes after about 30 seconds
and i cant get out of it
unless i turn off the pc

 

Hmmm . . . maybe you should download and run BelArc Advisor Pay attention to the hotfix list and service pack info. If you see a red X anywhere on the list (Q327979 comes to mind -- on my BelArc list it's red checked and the description says that if this particular item is not installed certain games will run slow or crash for example) Anyhow, BelArc can tell you the status of all the accumulated svce packs and hotfixes. Maybe something didn't d/l properly.

That site is wrong.

The message comes up because Windows Error Reporting has created a report to send off to MS.

Its not trying to recreate the dump at all.

Anyway, I have a tutorial here on how to read memory dumps. Hopwever as old as this thread is, I doubt it is still an issue.
