    IE cache has 242 mb - 6000 files - 8 folders.

I often clean it and often also delete all the randomly named folders to start a clean slate. It will rebuild with 4 randomly named folders every time. How big can / should this be allowed to grow? Sometimes it may have up to a dozen folders before I clean it out. And as much as a gig or more.

Isn't that what CCleaner is for?

That's how I clean it every few days. But CCleaner leaves 12 empty folders. I clean those off manually. How big / many would this grow with no action? Many times you hear a web site that a customer has had trouble with says to 'clear the cache'. Does the growth really make a difference. And why does CCleaner or other leave 12 empty folders behind?

Default IE cache size used to be 1GB, at least I've seen several with that amount. You can modify it, 300MB is a reasonable size

Large cache makes more sense on portable machines, saves a little downloading on regularly used sites.
