    Hi Guys,

Got a slightly strange problem going on here (when i say strange, I mean one I can't figure out).

For the last few weeks, I've been having problems displaying web pages on IE7 (and subsequently IE8). It all started, initially, when started using a download manager (Free Download Manager). This was fine for a while, but I started noticing that I couldn't connect to the web when it was running, getting the good old fashioned 'Internet Exlporer cannot display the webpage' message. However, my files were still downloading, and my internet connection was still running at its usual speed.

This problem has now spread to when I'm not using the download manager and is completely intermittent. If this isn't happening, then a number of pages just won't open properly, regularly failing to download some (but not all) of the images (particularly on Facebook).

I've tried all my usual tricks and none have come up with anything. I've run scans with Adaware, MBAM, Spybot S&D and HiJack This and they've found nothing, and a System Restore had no effect whatsoever.

Does anybody have any ideas what could be happening here? I welcome any questions you may have.

    Many thanks,
    Gooner82

Try flushing the dns cache you can use the command ipconfig /flushdns to flush the DNS resolver cache:
    C:\>ipconfig /flushdns

    Windows IP Configuration

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

Also try downloading ccleaner and give that a blast !

    Hey Rusty,

Thanks for your quick reply. CCleaner was the one thing I forgot to do. I ran it and it's held on to a few registry values, but everything else has been cleaned. I also flushed my DNS cache.

Unfortunately, neither of these seems to have had an effect. Do you have any other ideas?

    Thanks,
    Gooner

does this happen on all browsers (IE, Firefox, and Chrome are some good tests)? I assume it does, so I'll move on.
if you don't have a static ip, try ipconfig /renew.
Also, what do you do to get these things to load in the end? just wait? or do you keep refreshing until it works?

Well, I've only tried it on IE7, IE8 and Chrome so far, but I'm getting the same results each time.

As for its sense of ocassion, it's completely random. Sometimes it will load fine, sometimes it will take a while, sometimes it will load some of the page and sometimes it just won't load at all. This is usually dependent on the page I'm visiting.

Hotmail, for instance, will let me get to my log in page, I'll enter my password, press Enter and it will sit with a blank page before "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Refreshing the page and re-entering my password will usually be suaccessful.

Facebook will take a while to load , but the tool bar at the bottom regularly won't appear, and only about 50% of images in people's photo albums will show up.

Other sites load first time every time, but other sites will load fine at first, but will then decide to stop responding if I click on a link. Closing the browser and reopening the site will get it going again.

Like I say, it's completely random, which is what's confusing the hell out of me.
