Have a second computer crashing (rebooting) after starting internet explorer. IE starts, pauses and bye bye.
Found mad.dll and tvm.exe and toasted those guys (yikes what fun THAT was- not).
Thought I had it beat, but no way.
    Here is what I have:
OS: Windows XP Home Service Pack 2
    IE: Explorer 6.0
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP-A, 1900Mhz
    Motherboard: Asus A7V8X-MX
    Memory: 512MB PC2700 SDRAM
    BIOS: Award (9/15/03)
    ...
let me know if anything else is critical...

    any tips? Thanks
    -Wally

    Hi Wallyzworld,

Just to get you pointed in the right direction, it is a good idea to start with the Cleanup Tutorial HERE:
READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan and Virus Removal

There are only a few of us Volunteers who regularly offer advice in this forum. Running through the above Tutorial will remove a lot of stuff that would otherwise clog a HijackThis Log and save us valuable time.

Please let us know the steps that you are able to complete and the ones that give you problems. Note that you need to be in Safe Mode with System Restore OFF (if you have it - you didn't give OS) and have the Viewing of Hidden Files ENABLED as per the instructions in the link. Make sure to do the Online Scans.

Post back and let us know how you fared. Also, send us a HijackThis Log. Please be sure to follow the instructions below:

Note that your HijackThis should be up-to-date (v1.99) and MUST be extracted to its own safe folder – C:\Program Files\HijackThis!

If you need a Fresh Download of HJT, get it HERE: HijackThis v1.99

Also note that, before you scan, you MUST close all running programs including your web browser, e-mail and items in the system tray.

Please save your HJT Log as a .txt File and attach it via the "Manage Attachments" tool in the Additional Options section when you post.

ALSO, you should post back in the Spyware Specific Forum.

I’ve been pretty busy with work lately, but somebody will try to take a look when they get a chance.

    Best luck :)

    IE crashing still

    Merry Xmas.
If someone can take a peek at this over the holidays it would be great. My HJT log is attached as well. I have run all the suggestions that you indicated and I cannot see the problem. I can start IE, and go to google.com and a couple of other sites, but when i try certain sites like msn.com and even majorgeeks.com it pauses and crashes.
    Thanks

    Wally,

You should have posted back in your previous thread. If I had not looked for a previous message by you, I would have just told you to run the READ ME FIRST. Please stay in one thread until your problem is resolved. Also, you should have stated when you came back that you had run the READ ME FIRST and what kinds of problems those steps found.

I'm merging you back to your first thread.

    Re: IE crashing still

Was your HJT log from safe mode? It looks like it since I do not see all the processes that I would expect to see running. None of your Norton or Lexmark printer processes even show in the process list. We need an HJT log from normal boot mode without any filtering or deleting of lines from your log.

Question: Are you using a firewall by Norton? WinXP SP2 also has a built-in firewall which is enabled by default. You must only use one software firewall.
