I am helping a friend with his internet connection, and we have gotten his wireless card to work, but now IE keeps giving us a DNS error. I have tried everything IE suggested, and still no luck. It was working yesterday, then we had to update the firmware on our router, and reset his wireless card to work, and now he cannot access the internet even though the card says it is connected.

Sounds like when you did the firmware upgrade,,you reset the router,,,so now its not pulling the IP from the modem,,,,the handbook from the router has a address to go to to the routers controls,,,,get that addy and type into a browser window on the wirless system,,,,,and should let you see the firmware and adjust,if this does not help please post again,,,,,Glenn

I have actually reconfigured the router, and it is allowing all the other wired connections to work. The wireless connection is active according to the software that came with the card, it's just not allowing any programs to connect to the internet. so I think it is just a problem with IE not recognizing the wireless card.

I tried to access the router through the wireless card, and I cannot connect to the router. The wireless card says it's connected when I go to network connections tab, it only shows about 3-5 packets sent, and none recieved though.

no problem, I have tried that, and it is set to auto connect, and it still doesn't work. IE also doesn't even connect to the modem, but the wireless connections says it is connected. It does have a low connection, but it always has had a low connection because of where it is in relation to the router.

I just checked the log for the router, and it shows that a wireless pc was connected, but it does not show it being assigned an IP address.

click start, run, then type cmd and press enter. at the command prompt type ipconfig /release then type ipconfig /renew see if that helps you if you get an error then you know where to start

thanks guys for all your help, I decided to re-install the old firmware for the router, and that fixed the problem.
