This has been an ongoing problem...

FirstI have a PC and laptop running on a cable modem and Netgear router. At the beginning they both worked fine. At one point two months ago the PC would not access/open Internet Explorer (or Agent newsreader).

Eventually I brought it to a local geek shop and they 'fixed' it, while there they deleted some viruses, reset the winsock, and dld'd IE8. Then while there we surfed the internet, all seemed right. As you may guess, when I got home, I could not open IE or Agent. I called them back and they said ?'something must be in conflict'?. I called the Netgear tech support andfor an hour with them I went through the connection and settings and we could find no problems.

After about three weeks of trying occasionally to open, reboot and open with no luck, one time it opened! That day it worked along with Agent without problems. By mistake I closed the connection and have not been able to open it again!!!

All this time and through all of this my laptop connection has worked seamlessly!

I am at a loss on what to do. Any direction would be appreciated.

I am one step away from calling home geek delivery.

    Thanx

Please follow these directions on how to start your computer in safe mode and try to run Internet explorer and/or agent from there.

How to start your computer in safe mode:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. Before the windows logo tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
    3. Select the option Safe Mode with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.

I think you must mean "Safe Mode with networking"? :)

    Same method, different option.

Have you ever tried to get access with a different browser?
Befdore anybody says anything, I know that doesn't solve what problem they havewith IE( That is a problem by itself, IMO). But it is a possible alternative way to get online. If you can get online with some other browser, IE is messed up.If you can't, it could be a configuration problem.

No, I didn't mean safe mode with networking. I just wanted to see if internet explorer would open in safe mode. Thanks anyway ;)
