When trying to access some websites on Internet Explorer, the internet will suddenly close and the following error message pops up:

The instruction at "0x74986b37" refrenced memory at "0x00000024". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

Any ideas? I apologize if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find anything on it. Thank you in advance!

If you have Google Desktop, remove it and see if IE crashes.

Is this IE6 or have you updated to IE7.. if so then also update your Java, Adobe Flash.

if those and as Kniht mentions removing the Google Toolbar, then you will have to disable all the Add-ons and enable one by one to find the culprit.

To disable all Add-ons in IE6 or 7 click Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-ons and highlight and disable all then enable one by one until you find culprit.

Thank you for your responses. Sorry I didn't give all of the needed info.
    1) I do not have Google desktop
    2) It was happening in IE6 so I updated to IE7 and it is still happening.

I will go in and do the add on disable and let you know if any of it works. I also found info about taking the fade effect off of the appearances options in Desktop>Properties and that didn't fix the issue.

Thanks again and I will let you know how the add on disabling goes.

I would also still update Java adn Adobe Flash and Shockwave as well.

    Adobe Flash

    Adobe Shockwave

Sun Java ( If you have any older versions in Add/Remove uninstall them )

Ok...well, I tried everything you guys suggested, then IE7 was horrible. It would cause my whole computer to freak out and freeze up. So, I ran AdAware, Spybot Search and destroy, ccleaner, and AVG virus scan. Did it again in safe mode and uninstalled IE7. I rebooted in normal mode and now IE6 works fine. I went to the online game site that was shutting IE down (gamesville.com) and got to the page I needed. However, I now get this message when I get to the point where a window should pop up with the game rooms:
Note: Pop-up ad blocking software will interfere with your game.
Click here if your game window does not load.

I added the page to the IE Pop up blocker options and tried clicking on the "click here" link but nothing happens. I loaded SunJava, Flash, and Shockwave...very wierd

If any of the add-ons are disabled, re-enable them.

Do you have any toolbars or extras added to IE?
