IE error without IE running.

i seem to randomly get the error "this page has an unspecified potential security flaw" from IE even though its not running. i always get it in sets of 2. once i click yes or no (doesnt seem to matter which) ill get a second one that pops up. i tried googleing for this but couldnt really find anything, i did see some things about people getting them when they send messages on an IM program, but i get mine randomly, sometimes without even doing anything, ill just come back to my computer to find one. i have AIM running constantly and i have 2 accounts linked so i was thinking maybe this is the problem and it explains why i always get 2, but i havent been able to really test for this as i can the errors a dozen times in one day, or once a month. any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

 

My immediate thought was try turning off your IM program and leave the PC for a while and see if you still get the error. If you don't then you at least know where to start looking.

In the mean time have you confirmed that you haven't got any nasties on your machine?

 

yes im quite sure there are no viruses or malware or anything of the sort.

the problem with leaving the IM program off is that i use it very often and the errors can be frequent or once a month, and i wouldnt leave it off for an entire month.

do you have any other suggestions or know of anything that could cause this problem?

i havent updated AIM in a very long time, years in fact, and i havent been getting the errors that whole time, they are a more recent occurrence.

 

OK in that case I would set a restore point and then update to the latest version of AIM in case it was a corrupt file or an old version of a file that doesn't work with something newer you may have downloaded.
