IE errors on exit; please help!

I am having problems with my Internet Explorer browser. Every time I close an Internet Explorer window, Windows tells me that "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close." What can you tell me about this inexplicable error?

Please give us a little more info, for starters:

1. Any Error signature that list a specific .dll?

2. What is your Operating System?

3. When did it start?

Two questions I can answer straightaway.

No. When I view the error report, the report lists a "ModName" of "unknown".

I am running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2.

As to that, I am not sure.

Further to my last reply of about ten minutes ago, I have passed the issue through the Java forums at this page, and a fellow Java user said that my Java software cannot be the issue. I will, of course, continue to investigate the issue.

Do you have any toolbars installed?

Do you have the latest updates for IE thru Microsoft update?

Does it matter what website you are viewing?

Lastly, do you have any spyware detection software installed?

 

Upon the latest occurence of this crash, Microsoft's Online Crash Analysis discovered that my computer was hijacked with some part of the IBIS toolbar. I am currently searching for an anti-spyware program that will allow me to destroy this hijacker.

P.S. After I complete a spyware scan, I may just think about steering away from Internet Explorer...
