IE Favorites

When I try to add a web page to "favorites" in Internet Explorer (7 and then 8) running on 64 bit Vista Home Premium the page doesn't add and there is an "unspecified error" message. Any help or comments are appreciated. Thanks.

 

Hi Halo, Thanks for the info. It is not my PC but a friend's who is non-geek and 25 miles away. I was on it yesterday but don't recall seeing a service pack listed, but Windows Update did not include one for updates needed when I checked. I tried to explain your procedure by phone just now, but to no effect. It will have to wait until I can get there again to try it. I told her to upgrade it to Win 7 and that would probably solve the issue and a host of others with Vista or use Firefox instead of IE. I did clean the registry, there 500+ invalid entries, and looked over all of the settings...Thanks again!

 

You know, sometimes you just have to try to outsmart the system. . . one thing I've tried (with intermittant success) is to add Favorites through the back door, using Windows Explorer. Try it that way and see if it works. Just right-click the website's page that you want to link to, and select either Create Shortcut or Send to Documents. Then open Windows Explorer, go to the location to which you sent it, (either the Desktop or Documents), and transfer it to the Favorites folder. Voila! (hopefully. . .)
