IE, Flash and Fun in the Sun. Minus the fun.

Right, okay dokay here is ze problem. I'm currently trying to help a floating red orb who's flash videos load but have no sounds. This also includes videos he has seen before. I suggested just uninstalling and reinstalling his flash player but he responded, " Oh, I'm also having trouble updating my flash player, the download window won't open automatically and they don't have a way to do it manually. I suspect this is because somebody (lousy family) clicked the "don't show this again" when asked if they could trust Macromedia Flash to download from. Meaning my computer doesn't trust Macromedia..."

So how do we A) get his computer to trust macromedia again and B) get sound to play in flash again.

 

Coupla guesses:

Assuming you're using IE to get to the Macromedia site for the download, get the correct URL first, then open Internet Options, Security tab, and click on Trusted Sites, and add that Macromed URL. Oh, and make sure the URL isn't under the Restricted Sites button. Close IE, reopen it, and try the site's downloader again. Mebbe that'll fix the family.

Sound? Well, the flash player has a sound/mute button s'where, so mebbe if he succeeds in installing the new version, he can re-set the controls.

If sound works OK everywhere else, and sound works on everybody's Flash by default, then it's his Flash that turned the sound off, right?
