WHERE is the setting for this?! i've somehow managed to toggle it to "largest", where i am used to it being on "smaller" or "smallest".

"view>>text size>>" is doing nothing, and besides, that's only supposed to apply to current page/window anyways, right? where is the actual setting for changing the default?

nothing obvious in tools or help. or at least nothing obvious to someone with print so large he can't read it anyways....

that only gives me a choice of normal, large, and extra large. and it's set to "normal" at present, so there's nowhere to go with it.

besides, isn't that the system-wide setting? my prob is only within IE. explorer, etc. have teeny-tiny little fonts, same as always.

Use the control key and the Plus or Minus key to enlarge or decrease the font size. ;)

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Or, CTRL + 0 will default all zoom settings.

D'OH! I've never even NOTICED that down there!!!! And indeed have wondered why there's no "magnify" button...like I recall in earlier IEs....

Anyway, that did the trick. Indeed, it was set to 400%. Musta hit it sometime when I was aiming for the "scroll down" tab.

Either that or XP was dropping a hint about my impending geezerdown....

    make that "geezerdom".

hey, wouldn't it be sufficient to set the edit (anti-bot) timer at 30 mins?

10 is too quick to even notice the typos, let alone click edit (6 mins), type corrections (10-20 secs), and click repost (6 mins)....

OK, things are still not quite right. After closing/reopening the browser -- and even rebooting the PC -- it defaults to the 400% again!

Worse yet, some pages (WIKI in particular; also my webmail) seem to have "adjusted" themselves to the 400, so that when i change it back to 100%, I get microprint! In THOSE cases, I have to go back to 400 to see things "normal" again.

^+, ^-, and ^0 all work great, but now I find I have to change sizes on EVERY BLOODY PAGE i view! what the...?!

    :confused

    Hello,
Go to IE Tools>options>advanced and then click restore advanced settings. Restart IE. Then Go to IE Tools>options>general>accessibility and make sure "Ignore font sizes on web pages" in not checked.

funny, i put off doing what y'all recommended while dealing with some real-world problems this month, and now, after DLing a bunch of MS updates last week, i think the problem solved itself!

proving once again: procrastination is the mother of all invention! :-D

ok, i spoke too soon. things were still screwy, so i did as tgell said. including the "restore settings" option, which i immediately regretted doing (always prefer to go thru step by step so i know what the offending setting was myself).

aniwe...rebooted pc, restarted IE, got online and -- lo and behold -- first MG page comes up at "125%"!! not just lookswise, but explicitly so down in the status bar.

when i RESTORED things (^0), the fonts looked normal.

meanwhile WIKI pages all look like microprint! i have to go the OTHER way -- changing 100% to 125%, in order to see them normal again. obviously, it still has something to do with that "ignore font sizes" setting.

thirdly, the MS updates page also starts out with fonts too small, but unlike WIKI, no amount of hitting the upsize (125%...150%...200%...) has the slightest effect on it! as of right now, there is simply NO WAY to read the updates page (short of booting firefox).

for the record, webmail pages are no longer affected one way or the other. everything looking normal.

    NEXT!
