When I initially installed XP Pro I set my IE home page to google. Now, whenever I try to change it, it always reverts to google. Any ideas?

It isn't an actual FIX for what is going on, but I use Spyware Guard to keep my browser from being hijacked (amoung other things that Spyware Guard is good for.) It may or may not help you, but even if it doesn't, lol, you'll have another layer of security.

    Hope that helps.

This probably isnt a hijacking unless google.com has become spyware. ;) If it isnt a fix then he most likely dont need it, but Spyware Guard is a priceless tool to defend from malware. Im not too good with browsers, so another geek will come to the rescue dont worry.

LOL True on all counts... I just thought it might work to have another program trying to keep his last selection 'locked in' since I think it keeps track of what the settings are and when they are changed. lol Not that my thinking a thing makes it so.

Your right on the hijacking guard, but he needs a fix, and what you say here matters as much as what I say, rememeber we are geeks ;)

Ooo! I am a geek? A promotion! Cool!
I suppose I should not be posting 'aid' since I do not know much about computers and my idea of fixing a thing is, more often than not, just however I can get it to play nice. I should also excuse myself since I don't use IE unless I have no other choice. Long live Mozilla...and I have to try Opera soon.

    I can't resist...
    MarkC,
Have you tried setting it to a blank page? Or adding Google to your restricted sites list? These might 'knock out' Google and get things back the way they should be, then you could take Google back off of your restricted list, once it is playing nice again.
    Just an idea.

Sorry, but you're all wrong. This is not spyware. I have run Sspybot and Spyware Doctor. No spyware. Nor is it a hijack. I have run HijackThis and removed the home page entry. Same result. Restricting google will of course work, but then IE locks on to the first URL i set as the home page, be it msn, yahoo or anything else.

lol Yeah, I figured it was Not spyware or a hijack... Google is not real high on the Internet Offenders List. lol

I was just suggesting a possible temporary measure so it might not be so annoying until you can find the true culprit.

I don't know if the button exists on your machine, but on mine there is a "Reset Web Settings" button, this might also knock out whatever the bug is. Pain in the behind since you would have to go back and adjust all of your security settings, but might be worth it.

Another thing is that some security/spyware programs have the option of making it so that you CAN'T change the homepage... if you have such programs, you might look them over to see if they are keeping you from changing your homepage.

If that isn't it, all I can think of is maybe a glitch in User Profiles. Might try removing the profiles and set them up again new... don't know if that applies.

    Good luck.
