    Hi,

Sorry I do not know which version of IE I have, my computer is running Windows Vista if that helps.

I have gone to Tools, then Delete Browsing History, and tried running it a few times. I have used CCleaner as well as recommended by this site.

It's just the IE drop down bar that has old URLs of websites I've been to that won't go away.

Sorry if I did not use the right computer terms, I can clarify anything if needed.

    TIA

Are you sure these are not your favorites?

    Cheers...

They are definitely not in my favorites.

In fact, in the drop down bar there are separate sections for History and Favorites.

btw, that is the most beautiful radiant little girl in your avatar picture :)

First, thanks for telling me how to find out which IE I have, even though I didn't ask. It's good to know how to find it, I have IE8.

I've been messing around with trying to delete the URLs in the History drop down bar for days and nothing has worked, but I just unchecked the "Preserved" box, and it worked perfectly.

    Thank you very much!

    Hello,

I'm back again with the same problem. The drop-down History in my address bar will not clear. It had cleared when I tried DomLuc's direction, but the next time I turned on my computer they were all back again. They're not even recent searches, they're months old.

I tried the following from an article link on clearing URLs posted below:

    - 2.Run Registry Edit by typing RegEdit in the text box and click OK.
    - 3.In Regedit, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Typed URLs

I did that, and there was nothing there to clear.

I have been trying to clear the History from the Address bar using Tools>Internet Options> Delete history. That only works for cookies, etc. The URLs are still in my Address bar.

This suggestion was also in the article, but I do not see an 'Advanced' tab.

    - Another way is by right clicking on Start Menu, then click on Properties. Go to Start Menu tab, then click on Customize… (whichever that selectable). Then go to Advanced tab. Under the Recent documents box, click on Clear List will clean the history of IE address bar, as well as listing of recent documents being used or opened.

I really hope someone can help me, I can't reinstall IE8 because my computer did not come with disks for Office, Windows, etc and I never made the reinstall CD I was supposed to because I did not understand it.

I can post screen shots here of the problem if someone could tell me how.

    Thank you very much.

Hi, my name’s Feran and I’m working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to provide assistance and help answer questions people might have about Internet Explorer.

Here’s another option you can try:
Internet Explorer 8 actually has a feature where you can easily delete the auto fill urls in the address bar by clicking the “X” to the right of the urls you want deleted.

Maybe that will help you out.

download a program called ControlHistory from www.controlhistory.com its a good program that clears the browser's history, temporary files, etc.etc. and more.

its a good program and it does help boost the pc's performance as well. hope the program works for you.
