IE issues - 1 window only

Hi All
I recently had spyware & trojan issues & your site kindly helped me clean these up, but since then have not been able to open more than one window of internet explorer. If go to new window it effectively refreshes & remains as one window, also click on the IE icon to open another & it keeps only one open & goes to my default homepage.

I've had a look in the Tools / Options section & found nothing & bit reluctant ot restore defaults.

Your help is much appreciated.

When you run ccleaner, go ahead and delete the crap it finds ...mostly all temp files and cookies. Then click on issues and run it .... when it is done, it will have alot of useless registry items among other things. click fix selected items. It will ask if you want to do a backup....yes, when it comes up as to where it is saving the backup[, I name it by the numericall time I've run it ...first scan, second scan, etc. then ok and ok ....if there is a problem that is causing the IE issue, that may solve it .... if not, then run IEFix again and report back.

Looked at your HJT log and noticed you have the Yahoo Toolbar installed. That can cause what you are experiencing sometimes.

I would remove it and see if it solves the problem. If you decide to uninstall it be sure to go thru Add/Remove in the Control Panel.

For the record, I use Firefox, but I have a need to check presentation on IE and sometimes have a couple of windows open at a time, and this problem was a huge pain in the --- for me.

Having this problem for a couple of months now, I ran the whole gambit (registry verification and cleanup, running HijackThis, searching M$'s support site, running through IE's installed objects and removing some, clearing temp files, etc etc) and until I saw Steve's post above I had found nothing about this anywhere.

I never correlated installing the latest Yahoo IM a few months back with IE problems because I didn't realize for some time I couldn't open more than one window at a time.

It appears that Yahoo's Toolbar does in fact cause or force IE to be unable to open a new browser window and have only one window open at a time. The only way I could have multiple IE-engine windows open at a time was to use Maxthon and its tabs.

I have Windows 2000 SP4 with IE / Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106 with all patches and updates installed. As soon as I did the removal of Yahoo IM, the problem was resolved.
