IE locks up

A computer I am working on will run IE for a few windows and will eventually lock up. That seems to be the only symptom at this time. We restart the machine and it gets to the internet just fine and within 5 to 10 minutes IE will not find pages.

    What I have done?

Ran updated Adaware, Spybot 1.3 and checked for windows XP critical updates. Ran AVG antivirus. Ran msconfig and have it down to a minimal number of operations. Have removed and added IE from ADD/Remove microsoft programs. All other programs seems to be running fine. The machine itself does not lock up.

The user of the machine is suggesting a reformat and I don't think it is necessary, but it has been going on for a month or more now and is quite annoying. I worked on it doing basically the same sorts of things over a week ago and it would work for a few hours without problems, but the last couple of days it is back to working for only a little while.

It is on a T1 line at a high school.

    Any ideas??

You shouldn't be using IE theses days. It has way too many bugs and secuiryt flaws.

Try Opera Or Firefox instead. Theya re the only two browsers worth using anymore

Thanks for the suggestions. Although they were not specifically the cause of the problem they did help me get there. It seems we, at least I am, are so hounded by spyware and virus type issues, it becomes easy to forget to look elsewhere.

Firefox seemed like a logical step but it lead to the same problems so finally I started looking at other issues. I was able to see and ping other computers so I didn't think it was a network card issue.

Basically his computer had a 2nd network connection besides the normal LAN connection I was expecting. It was called "My ISP". I deleted this connections and everything started working right.

    Thanks for the help
