Recently installed Google Chrome and soon after updated to IE8. Along with Chrome installed some Yahoo toolbars (do0nt know why...never use Yahoo much. Anyway, began having slowdown and having to back up and refresh a link to get it to connect. Now, IE isnt working at all, but can access the internet fine with Chrome. Whats wrong?
    Thanks

Hello cdb1851, maybe it has something to do with IE 8. I have heard of different 'issues' with it.. Have you tried to remove IE8? Go to add & remove programs, and remove IE8. then, restart,,,,, You should revert back to the last IE you had before installing IE8. (IE7, IE6?) That just might solve your problem... ;)

I don't think it is the chrome, but more like an issue with IE8. Try to remove it, and see if that solves your problem, and let us know..

Thanks for the quick response. Something weird here...went to add/remove and the only IE listed is 7...I downloaded 8 about a month ago. Wut now?

Now, that is a good question... IE8 should be showing in add & remove programs... What version of windows are you using? XP or Vista? That may or may not make a difference here, but should know, to seek the proper remedy here... ;)

OK, this is going to take a little while, I do know XP, but only the Pro edition, so will have to find someone who is more knowledgeable with the Home edition......

One thing you can do, is open IE, click on help, and then about Internet Explorer, and tell me what version it is showing.... Something just doesn't sound right, because everything that is downloaded is in add & remove programs.... This is going to make me put on my thinking cap!;)

You say you upgraded to IE8?
How? Windows Update or a download to your hard drive. If downloaded, it would have to be run and installed like any other program. If not installed, it would not show in Add/Remove. Just delete from your hard drive.

Windows Update...my programs list identifies it as IE7. Is the conflict with Chrome?

What browser did you use for the download? If anything but IE, may be a Failed Install issue.
Try going to your Add/Remove and click on the Windows Component. See if listed there.

I uninstalled IE8 cos it was shite. Just the normal procedure. Add/remove programmes. Reverts back to IE7 automatically. I'm 99% sure that's how I did it. Was a while ago, though.

How I got rid of it. No regrets about it either.

I went to both add/remove at control panel and to the tools list on CCleaner and both lists only show IE7. I wonder if its possible that I screwed up the registry with CCleaner (no backup) also dont have any of the discs that came with this computer. Old girlfriend took them.

Like I asked earlier, what browser did you download with? Is possibly a failed install and you're trying to find something that isn't there.
Use the IE that you have, go to Windows or Microsoft Update and do a Custom search for updates to see if IE8 is offered. If it is, you can stop worrying.

I would have downloaded with IE7, however I cannot use it now (not working) . Can I use Chrome to dl the Microsoft update and dl thru it?
Is so, could I just dl IE7 again to patch the problem?

If you want IE7, just do a Google search and download like any other program.
I use older IE6 myself for my update downloads.

Go to your C drive, go to Program Files, go to the Internet Explorer folder.Open the folder and just scroll your pointer over the IE icon. what ver. number is it showing and how many are there?
