IE problem affects rest of Windows

Hi there. I have a small (well quite large really...) problem with Internet Explorer 7. I dont know what has caused it, but I find that nearly every site I load gets the warning in the status bar "Done but with errors in page".

I cannot access any of the Microsoft Update pages, and when I click the little icon in the status bar, I get no other information, other than that a "script error" has occurred. There are other fields such as line number, etc, but those are blank. It asks if I want to continue running scripts, which I click 'yes' to - only to be presented with another error. This continues until I end the IExplore.exe process.

Now I wouldnt normally be bothered, as I use FF/Opera for normal browsing - but I found that it affected other displays in Windows - in particular the System Restore window would not contain anything other than a white background. Useless to me of course!

I have now un-installed IE7 and reverted to IE6 - and looking on Google, a number of people in an MSDN forum have had the same problems and done the same! (View that thread here.)

Has anyone else had these issues? I have run the fixes suggested in that forum, and in the links supplied, and to no avail! My PC is due a format and re-installation anyway (nigh on 2 years since the last one) - but if anyone has any other suggestions, they would be welcome. Cheers guys (and gals)
