    Hey termite,

Welcome to MG's. That's a lot of issues, maybe more information will help me and the other geeks:

    1. Can you download attachments in Outlook Express?

    2. Which version of Norton's do you have?

    3. Are you using SP2 firewall or another one?

    4. Did all this start after removal of spyware?

    5. Have you added or changed any anti-virus / firewall / pop-up blockers settings or products recently?

Matacumbie.....to your questions, yes I can open attachments in Outlook....I have Norton Internet Security 2004 and update weekly....don't know if I'm using the firewall...how do I find that?....I run Ad-Aware daily and SpyBot every day or so. If anyone can give me instructions I can follow them, but am not really savvy (can you tell?) The most recent addition is Prevx Intrusion Prevention. Defrag is not recommended when I check there.

OK. First I would check and make sure if you are running two (2) firewalls. NIS comes with a firewall and so does SP2 (installed by default). To check your SP2 firewall settings:

1.Click Start and then click Control Panel.

2.In the control panel, click Windows Security Center.

    3.Click Windows Firewall.

4.In the General Tab make your selection ON / OFF.

If you discover that your Norton's firewall is ON turn the SP2 firewall OFF.

Also, I am not very familiar with Hotmail but I would check for some kind of options (maybe under security or something) and make sure that it allows attachments or is not blocking certain items you have allowed.

Check Norton's Internet Security for the same thing, any type of blocking, filtering, scanning attachments and adjust those settings as you feel comfortable and try it.

I'll try to check these......maybe 2 firewalls has caused some of the slow-down. I'll be back.....thanks for the help.
