Thisisu helped me destroy malware and we did good. This has lead to skype crashing and totally unusable, IE trys reloading tabs of any site im on, and windows update wont stop trying to update, and fails. Sp3 was uninstalled and reinstalled during malware removal, also updated windows to the best it could( about 95 updates). Please help me

I read some of your malware thread earlier today. For the IE problem, can you boot into Safe Mode, create a new user with admin privileges then reboot into the new account to test it?

user created with admin priv., logged on, same issue on IE

Ok, how long has this been happening?

What security software has been run on that PC during this period, antivirus, antimalware, firewall (exclude software downloaded during the Malware thread)?

this issue started after sp3 uninstall/reinstall yesterday. before (malware removal)mcafee was my antivirus/real time scanning learning how much got past it i felt it was not doing its job. now i use comodo (real time)antivirus, and firewall and superantispyware. when comodo was downloaded yesterday a scan was performed and i ran a superantispyware scan just today.

Mcafee is one of the security programs I've seen cause script errors similar to this, grab the uninstall tool from here, run it then reboot and test again.

I used MCPR just before i used the forum. Anyways used MCPR again, rebooted, and issue is the same

Ok, can you checkout the MSFT Fixit tool, it may have something useful - I'm on W7 at the moment, I doubt if all the fixes would be the same across XP and 7.

Just to clarify, Mcafee was active when the IE script problem first arose, yes?

Mcafee was long gone after this problem began, it began immediatly after the sp3 reinstall

i get an error when i try to run fix it "an unexpected error has occurred. please close and try to run setup again later"

So the Fixit utilizes part of the IE core scripting, I guess.

Can you uninstall then reinstall SP3 then? If you installed it from the MSFT online installer or Windows/MSFT Update last time, please use the full installer this time - do it offline and suspend or uninstall all active A/V and antimalware, firewall etc. until the install is completed.

i used ", click Run, type c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe in the Open box, and then click OK. " to unistall sp3 previously. would you reccommend me do it this way again? if not, then what?

sp3 uninstall\reinstall with no change in IE error(tab recovery loop\ needs to close). also svchost is at 99%usage causing lagging badly. I disabled AV and firewall and dissconnected modems during uninstall\reinstall process. :(

    sfc /scannow
this will repair any damaged windows files. Sometimes malware and its removal can corrupt essential files.

sfc /scanner is asking to insert my xp professional sp3 CD, which, i dont have. i do have sp2 cd. which came with the comp when purchased long ago. btw scanner says files that are required for windows to run properly must be copied to the dll cache.

Did you try IE while you were (briefly) back in SP2?

I have a vague recollection that the System File Checker was flaky in XP if run with the wrong SP level, if my memory is correct, all it did under those circumstances was to update the verification on all files as being good. If it auto-skipped verification or you manully skipped on each popup (this should be the default?), there will be details of the files skipped in C:\windows\setupapi.log.

You can create a slipstreamed XP SP3 CD if you have the original XP CD.

Note that even doing a repair install from an XP SP3 CD is very unlikely to fix the IE script errors.

if this helps this is the one of many errors skype has till it crashes too which might help triangulate the issue. "exception eaccessviolation in module mshtml.dll at 0020a058"

That's an IE module, which is why we must concentrate on cracking IE before we move on.

Frankly, it might save a lot of work if you were to backup then do a fresh install of Windows.

ok, i'm willing to do this i just need help on doing just that. how to back up the comp safely and how to reinstall windows which sounds like a big task. thanks for all time involved with this issue.

To do a fresh install, you need your XP CD and the Windows key, do you have them?

What storage do you have to transfer your data onto?

  24. ska_t_meladd

    ska_t_meladd Private E-2

no external drives, so i would have to purchase that..no xp cd, but i do have the product key.

Hmm, you need to track down and borrow/buy a CD that matches your key - which XP version is it, Retail, System Builder or an OEM like Dell/HP? It must match.

Don't buy an external drive with any 'bonus' software included, it could lead to massive problems in the future. Keep it simple :) no backup or security stuff.

xp media center edition ver.2002 / HP pavilion a1510n. was planning on the external drive anyway so it just gets me on that task.

Did you have the HP from new? If so, there's a chance that you could create a Windows Recovery CD from the original data/software on the drive (if it still exists and doesn't require IE). There's also a good chance that HP would supply you with CD for a small sum, contact them with your details.

Ok, this page tells you how to use the built-in recovery procedure, create the Recovery disks and how to obtain new CD's from HP.

I'd attempt the CD creation first. Don't try the built-in system recovery without having a known good backup of all your personal/vital data first.

Ok its been a while but i'm back... I have created the recovery disks, and my hard drive is backed up, Using a Seagate replica external drive. So I believe I am ready to get to xp reinstall process.

Sounds good, booting from your created Recovery discs to install XP fresh, right?
