IE works fine, it just opens the home page VERY slowly, about 90 seconds to 2 minutes. But once it's open, it works just fine. Other browsers like FireFox work perfectly. The PC was running IE6, and I thought upgrading to IE7 might help. It did for maybe 3 minutes. IE opened nice and fast 2 or 3 times, then went right back to being super slow. Everything but essentials has been unchecked in msconfig startup. There's no malware, ran CCleaner on both temp files and the registry. Even did a repair install of XP Pro SP2. It still opens too slowly. It may be related to Symantec, but I can't remove it because the uninstall is password protected, and nobody knows what the password is. Any help is appreciated.

    This worked for some:

I had this problem for about 6 months now and it was driving me crazy. I would launch IE and it would just HANG there for about 15+ seconds as if it was searching for something, then it would start loading the webpage. This fixes it:

    From: http://members.aol.com/axcel216/newtip21.htm#MI5S6F

To do this, run Regedit and go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
    \RemoteComputer\NameSpace
Highlight the {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} Value and delete it: right-click on it -> select Delete -> click OK.

This Registry change takes effect immediately.
Just start MS IE while connected to the network/internet to see the difference. :)

Thanks for the tips. I'll look into those links and I'll post what happens. I won't have access to the PC in question until tomorrow morning....
    Thanks again.
If anyone else has any input, feel free to post ;)

OK- I tried the fix linked to above, and it 'sort of' worked. Now IE opens nice and fast to the home page, but when I type a different address into the address bar or put something in the search bar, IE takes up to 90 seconds to open the desired page or search results. After it finally opens, IE runs fine. So, the fix above essentially moved the delay from when IE first tries to open the home page, to when IE tries to open a desired web site or search. After the delay, everything runs fine.... Any ideas?
