IE10 screwiness

Suddenly I've got my windows update link as the final entry under some "safety" pulldown on my IE10 command bar. Is that normal? I was always used to it being 2/3 of the way down on the "tools" pulldown.

Is this just a diff between IE7/8/9 and now IE10? I really thought everything was normal after the update and that this screwiness has appeared separately SINCE then, but perhaps I just didn't notice.

In fact, that whole TOOLBAR doesn't look familiar. That looks like the type I'd typically turn off. What's going on here??

Also...what do you call it when a toolbar "slides" out of sight, and where are those settings? I'm used to it happening in video players when they're set to fullscreen, but somehow it's started happening to my BROWSER. And not down the bottom (quick launch, active tasks, etc bar) which I recall trying out a few years back, but UP TOP (address bar, toolbar, etc) as well this time.

This is driving me BATTY! I have multiple "tabs" open at any one time and I can't even SEE them unless I "hover" in the area. Likewise for all the stuff down the BOTTOM -- altho I least I have the alt-tab kludge in that case (i.e. change tasks/windows).

I took a look through the "appearance" options, but I'm not seeing anything relevent. WHERE IS THIS SETTING?!

on top of which, i'm totally missing such basic things as "file" -- which I use CONSTANTLY -- and "edit".

which toolbar are they "supposed" to be on? not seeing them on any of the 4 on offer atm!

oh, and FAVORITES!!!! where the heck are THEY?!

i've got a favorites BAR -- about 10 items in a quick launch format -- which is just fine, but where's the PULLDOWN under either an icon or the word "favorites" with the OTHER 2000 links...?!

no sign of either.

in the words of roseanne rosanadana...NEVER MIND.

there was indeed a "full screen" setting toggled. which had the odd side effect of removing the "file...edit..." etc bar even when it was overriden via hover.

anyway, it's off now and all is back to normal.
