I'm helping a lady with her laptop and she uses CompuServe dialup for her ISP. She's a student, and one of the online courses she's taking won't work with Compuserve/Netscape; only with IE6. So, I'm trying to configure IE6 to dial up to Compuserve and log in. It dials OK, connects OK, but after validating the user name and password it responds with "Unable to establish connection". At first I had the user name wrong, and I got the message "Invalid user name or password". So I fixed that. Am I overlooking something here? Does Compuserve require NetScape or their own proprietary browser? She's willing to dump Compuserve as a last resort if totally necessary, but that seems a bit extreme. I've set up IE6 for other dialups before, why won't it work with Compuserve? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated! THANX!

I recently reformatted a friends PC a couple of months ago and she used that WalMart Connect software which has it's own 'own proprietary browser'. Same as CompuServe, I believe. confused

But once logged on you can use any other browser.

They say when you upgrade to SP2, the issues starting arising. Since they don't update their software, I had to resolve two issues with it. One, she couldn't stay online for more than 10 minutes, other was a script issue.

Here is what I had to do, for the first issue:
Once logged on using the proprietary browser, go to , "My Favorites" Click, "Enter Keyword" Type: XPSP2FIX in the box, then click "GO" Be very patient, wait and follow instructions...")

I believe you may be able to find the patch online. I have it, but I don't remember where I got it.

Here is what I had to do for the script issue:
INCLUDE COMPUSERVE WEBSITES ON THE INTERNET EXPLORER SCRIPT BLOCKERS
The Script Blocker on Microsoft Internet Explorer can cause different Script Errors. Simply add these websites on those Script Blockers to eliminate the issue. Please follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    1. Click START, select PROGRAMS or ALL PROGRAMS, then click INTERNET EXPLORER.
    2. On the menu bar, click TOOLS, then click INTERNET OPTIONS.
    3. Click the SECURITY tab.
    4. Click TRUSTED SITES.
    5. In the Trusted Sites section, click SITES.
    6. Uncheck 'Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.'
    7. In the 'Add this Web site to the zone' box, type http://member.compuserve.com, then click ADD.
    8. Again, in the 'Add this web site to the zone' box, type http://community.compuserve.com, then click ADD.
    9. Click OK.
    10. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.

Not sure if these will help your issue.

Thanx for the info, but she decided to go ahead and dump CompuServe and I installed NetZero. It's cheaper, and it's IE based, so all her online school work will work....
