    Hi,

I generally keep my PC in pretty good running condition and have up until recently been using programs like Adaware, AntiVir and RegScrubXP to do this. I recently stumbled upon the top freeware picks page here at majorgeeks and noticed that I was running below the "recommended" level of protection. Without further ado I proceeded to install the following programs:

    - SpywareBlaster
    - McAfee AVERT Stinger
    - AIM Fix
    - F-Secure BlackLight

I set up SpywareBlaster to use all protections from the database it downloaded. AVERT Stinger did a full scan and came up with no problems. AIM Fix did it's thing and didn't find any problems either, as did Blacklight.

I usually use Firefox for my web browsing, but seeing as I'm a web developer by trade I have to use Internet Explorer from time to time to check for cross-browser compatibility on the sites I build. So I loaded up IE today (this is a day or two after installing the above) and found that it wouldn't load any sites whatsoever!

When I type in a URL and press Enter, the little Windows logo animates as if the page is loading, but the status bar just sits there with "Done" written in it and the other animated bar that shows loading progress doesn't show up at all :(

I figured SpywareBlaster may have been the culprit so I disabled all of it's protections and then rebooted my PC but still the same thing happens.

Whilst I'm all for spyware protection and realise this will completely protect me from any spyware that may come my way through IE, it is a bit impractical.

I'm running IE 6.0 and Windows XP SP2. No other applications seem to be having issues connecting to the net (Firefox, Skype, command prompt pinging, yada yada...).

    Any help will be appreciated.

I have used Spyware Blaster for years and it never messed with IE
The other programs you said you ran that didn't 'do' anything wouldn't be the problem either.
When you updated Spyware Blaster it used IE...correct?
I know my Spyware Blaster does even though I have another browser set as default.
Sounds to me like it's something else...perhaps AntiVir or something removed with RegScrubXP ?
Someone should be able to help you with IE...I just wanted to tell you I doubt it's because of Spyware Bleaster.
    :)
