IE6 Problems

    Pentium(r)266mhz 128PC100 RAM WinME
    Recently upgraded from IE5.5 to IE6SP1. Yesterday I did some virus and spyware/hijack cleanup. Now my browser is screwed up. It will open my home page and then a few links - then quits (can't navigate to other pages or URLs).
    Running the 'repair' from add/remove programs fixes it BRIEFLY then above symptoms reappear.
    Reboot doesn't help.
    I had done some registry editing (carefully) to fix the virus/hijack problems.
    Also I turned OFF Avast! and Zone Alarm in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run so they wouldn't load at reboot (memory conservation? - WinME needs all the help it can get!)
    Suggestions?

    Edit-rebooting works but symptoms remain

    Got no responses but that's OK. It seems to be working now. The ONLY thing I did was reverse the registry changes I made to stop Avast and ZA from loading at startup. Thank heaven for the 'export' function in regedit. :D

    Just an FYI: To enable/disable startup items it's safer and more convenient to use msconfig.exe :)

    I am running win xp with ie6 , recently when trying to download, ie6 locks up...error message
    "program not responding ..will shut down" I can browse if I use search but if I want to direct access with "GO" button there is no response. Do you have any ideas?
