ok, I have a user that cannot get the .net passport with hotmail to work. Everytime you log into hotmail it says cookies are disabled, enable cookies blah blah blah. I checked the settings and no sites are blocked. Then I went to privacy settings and overrode all settings and told it to accept all cookies all the time. Still no dice. Tried to repair IE via the control panel / add remove software, no dice. Reverted back to previous version of IE, which was 5.0 still no dice. Can anyone tell me if there is some obscure registry setting or check box somewhere , that I have missed, that will enable cookies to work for this site? This is driving me nuts......

have you ever used spyware blaster on this machine?
check the hosts file and make sure there are no loop back entries for hotmail or passport or microsoft anything in there.

is it on a network? do the other machines on the network do it or is it just that machine? Hosts file is a good bet if you ask me :)

hosts file is clean...adaware found some stuff, but nothing that changed anything. Trying to revert back to previous version and try to uninstall completely........starting to think this guy's registery has been whored out and needs a format...

when you over-rode the cookie handling.. did you check "always allow session cookies"?

have you tried using a proxy to get to it?

I had a similar problem and I actually loaded MSN messenger on there so I could get to my_msn. Turned out that spyware blaster looped back hotmails server to a local IP. i had to remove that from the hosts file, but if you say it's clean , then I'm running out of ideas.

there was a mysterious "porn" episode a while back. :rolls eyes: wondering if this user was banned from hotmail and this message is just a nice way of putting it.....

guess there's one way to find out.. have him log on to a computer that is known to work with passport. if he can't log in then, perhaps his account is borked.
