Since I had been having problems with it I uninstalled then reinstalled Flight Simulator a little earlier this evening. I haven't had time to check it out properly yet.

But something else has cropped up too.

I have on my desktop shortcuts to a few URLs. When I clicked on any of them earlier, my default browser, IE6, didn't open up, Firefox did, and it reported that it couldn't open, for instance, Yahoo Mail .

    So I uninstalled Firefox.

Clicking on any of the shortcuts then opened up MS's "Open With" window. I told it to open with IE and clicked the box to always open this sort of file with it. It doesn't. It still presents the Open With window.

A Belarc scan with system specs.is attached.

    Can anone help please?

Don't post a belarc log unless removing your application product keys from it...

Beta products don't solve anything and usually cause headaches. I do not agree.

    Try start run, iexplore.exe /rereg

I think I shall leave other people to test-drive IE7.

I tried that Adrynalyne but it hasn't cured the problem.

well, it's your choice but I think IE7 is pretty damn good, and not too many bugs for a beta.

Click Start, Run and type the following command and press Enter.

    REGSVR32 /i SHDOCVW.DLL

If that does not help, try this.

    1. Click Start, Run and type CONTROL INETCPL.CPL
    2. Click Tools, Internet Options, Programs tab
    3. Click Reset Web Settings button, press Yes
    4. Click OK and close the dialog

IE7 beta2 or any beta product is not a valid workaround or option for troubleshooting a problem.. in itself it can actually cause many more issues.

this Beta2 is intended for Devs, IT Pros or savvy users who know the pitfalls of using pre release software and thus should never be used to try and fix a problem.

If dmb06851 installs this as per your recomendation ( which I hope he/she doesnt ) I hope you'll be around to assist them when it doesnt work, crashes or actually needs to be removed?

Edit: what I would also do in case Firefox has left some reminents of files dlls, registry entries etc is to delete the Mozilla Firefox folder in Program Files if still their then use CCleaner to clear all old temp/junk files and also do the Issues check as their maybe soem registry entries left preventing you from setting IE as default.

Thank you Matacumbie, the first suggestion has solved the problem.

Halo, yes I despatched Moxilla's folder to the great refuse centre in cyberspace and then applied the electronic Harpic (CCleaner.)

Nice. I figured iexplore /rereg would reregister that dll, too. Its supposed to.

I wonder if the /rereg switch even works like it is supposed to?

I read up on the /rereg switch after talking to you, I didn't know it was even available in SP2 (shows my expertise).

But, it certainly does list SHDOCVW.DLL. Sure would save alot of time if it did or does work.

Thank's for the info Adrynalyne, I always learn something from you. :)
