just this morning IE7 worked fine now when i get home java does not work at all along with flash player... if you click on 'find on this page' it comes up with a window but there is nothing inside the window, you can see right through it all that is there is the frame... this also happend to my girlfriends computer and i uninstalled it on hers but on my computer i uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it just kept doing when it is doing now

I installed IE7 too a coupla days ago. The way they designed the new favourites is nuts. I can't click and drag one folder up and down the list to appear under another folder -- it just goes inside the other folder or back to where it began. Also, when I am adding, it gives me the whole tree instead of allowing me to click and open the folders I want.

I started a thread on this coupla days ago. Eventually I just used system restore to get myself back to IE6. I am happy now.

i got the bright idea to use system restore and i even get a script error when the window for system restore comes up when i have IE7 installed

but anyway system restore did not work ether when it was all said and done i rebooted and the window came up that said system restored to... but then it said no changes have been made to your computer... i restored it to 10 days before this happend and i have installed and uninstalled several things since then... doesn't system restore reinstall and uninstall those thing that i have installed and uninstalled?

    PS
i have posted about this on another thread a wile ago because my girlfriends computer was doing the same thing and NOBODY EVER REPLYED i thought this was "major geeks".com... does nobody know anything about IE7 or are they just to lazy to help me!?!?

i would go to microsoft support for help but it is like $40 and only phone support for IE7...screw that lol

It seems some are have terrible problems with IE7, and others like myself had a smooth transition............Why nobody seems to be able to give a good reason, so that's maybe why you are not getting the answers you need. One solution has been to uninstall IE7, use CCleaner, then reinstall.

Remember one thing about Major Geeks, most of us try to help if we think we have an answer, and don't say a thing if no solution comes to mind, and name calling or degrading comments do nothing for your problem, and just make others not bother to offer possible solutions. The number one rule here at Major Geeks is play nice, and post back if you find the solution or if one of our solutions works. Hope that Helps

    yes it does thank you

it is just annoying that i was using it that morning and everything was working perfectly then when i came home it did not work... didn't install anything to mess it up... have no viruses, spyware, adaware... it just makes no sense

could maybe java have some kind of compatibility issue?

A simple "BUMP" post will put it back up on the top of the front page Yusky03, and most of the time that is all that is needed, it's easy to miss a post the first time. Many of mine have been either missed or tha answers have not worked. Hope that helps Mate

doesn't vista come with IE7 already integrated

Beta... i thought IE7 is now final or do you meen there are still some issues

  15. BCGray

    BCGray Guest

No "Vista" is still in "Beta" and that is what you say you are using, IE7 is in its final release, and yes there are some issue's with it, as with any new release.

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought you said you were using "Vista" which is still "Beta", you might want to try updating your Java with the link I provided above, but I am not certain just how compatibile it or any software is with Vista. There are numerous "Vista Beta" user sites that might be able to shed more light on your problem, there are just a handful here at Major Geeks that are playing with "Vista", hope that helps

no no i am not using Vista (my system could not handle it lol namely my graphics card) here is system info... sorry for the confusion

    windows xp sp2

the detailed system info should (hopefully) help with finding a solution to the problem

    BCGray Guest

Okay and Thanks it was getting a little confusing there for awhile........Okay you have rolled back from IE7 to IE6 correct, and you still have issue's correct again........And from your Hijack File which by the way the best way to post is a an attachment in straight text(easier for others to read) you now have IE7 and you have Java 5.10 running and still have issue's am I right so far????

Sorry Theefool, You beat me to it

  20. yusky03

    yusky03 Private First Class

yes at first eveying was fine and dandy then all **** broke loose for what seems no reason at all

i have not rolled back because every time i do nothing will run saying "the ordinal 56 could not be..." (pic of error in previous post)

i could not post in strait txt because the file was to big lol so i compressed it... and it is not a hijackthis log it is a exe that collects system info that i got from Kaspersky to fix a problem a wile back... it seems to collects a LOT!! more info then the hijackthis log does so i used it :)

and yes you are righ so far

the system information file shows what all i have installed on my computer and pretty much everything else you would need to know

  21. BCGray

    BCGray Guest

Just a thought I wonder if you download IE6 (do not install) rollback IE7, use CCleaner (to get rid of any Cr*p left in registry) then click to install IE6, you have a definite "Conflict/Corrupt File" issue and that may straighten it out, and Sorry I did not have the time to read the entire HJ file, so if I pose some "Dumb" questions you'll know why.

  22. yusky03

    yusky03 Private First Class

its ok lol the hijack log is huge anyway

i was told it was a huge pain to reinstall IE6?
how do i reinstall it... windows xp sp2 reinstallation CD?

I am going to have to do some more research yusky03, don't want to give advice that just might make your problem worse, and there is a note on your link and I just noticed on the link I gave that says for other than XP SP2.

I will check and see if I can find something else or maybe someone else has a solution

What website are you viewing that is having the java issue?

When I stated to apply xp sp2, I meant, if IE7 was NOT installed.

Applying xp sp2, while IE7 is NOT installed is a good idea, incase something in your situation comes up.

Installing xp sp2 on top of xp SP2 with IE7, MAY (not sure, never tried it) cause issues.

When one UNINSTALLS IE7, IE6 is then back. No need to install it. Though, I do recommend re-applying xp sp2. (Personal preference).

BTW, this is the download one neeeds to install for a re-install of sp2:

i get a java error on the website that comes up right after you install IE7 called 'customize your settings' there is a blue screen with the java error at the bottom (on the status bar)

yahoo.com yahoo mail beta does not work stops when it says loading yahoo mail... also were the box pops down if you hold your mouse over it called 'mail' does not pop down

www.youtube.com the video on the front page works along with anyother youtube video on other sites but when i go to the youtube web site says this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUq1cGGHvRU) it would come up saying java was disabled or you have micomedia flash player not installed

only ones i can think of at the moment

if i uninstall IE7 i get that one error i stated from before but if i replace the ddl file that the error mentions with the one being used before IE7 was uninstalled IE7 works like i did not even uninstall it which would meen it is not really uninstalled... right?

if i reinstall xp sp2 will all installed programs be no more... what exactly would happen to all my files... what would change... what would not... sorry i have never done it before i just would like to know what to expect

can i reinstall xp sp2 via reinstallation disc that came with my computer?

  27. theefool

    theefool Geekified

I'd not install the xp sp2 re-installation disc that came with your computer, since more than likely, that is the disc that may (or may not) make your computer back to what the original settings are.

When you go to add/remove programs, how many versions of java do ye have? If you have multiple, I'd uninstall ALL of them, then install the latest JRE update 10.

Also, what happens when you go here:

    http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Click the Verify java installing (after you installed the latest version).

    PS
almost forgot the weird java error

when i go to the search tab and go to find on this page a weird java error came up (you have most likely had a java error that said there was a java error would you like to keep running java on this page yes or no... or something liek that)i get about 40 of those ontop of one another and nomatter what i click yes or no nothing happens... only when i press the X at the top of the window it will close then once i get that all closed i get this window and non of the bottons on that window work but the X at the top of the screen... then once all the error are gone the find on this page is still up but all the buttons are grayed out

this kind of java error also happens on the customize your settings page

i have always uninstalled all java versions then installed latest... so it has already been done :)

when i go there the java icon comes up in the task bar and the java console opens and i get this message

    We detected your Java environment as follows;
    Description Your Environment

CONGRATULATIONS, you have the Latest version of Java

and no java errors at the bottom of the page :)

it must be something internal and not something wrong with the website

i am using Firefox 2.0 right now and if i can not get IE7 to work i will somehow get it back to IE6 and use firfox

  32. theefool

    theefool Geekified

But, using firefox, is not the answer, I wished. ;)

If using firefox, it works, and not with IE7, we need to correct this. :)

Slowly, but surely. I do hate workarounds, but using another browser to detect if java is working, is a good step forward. :)

yeah i have never had ANY problems with Firefox and i would still be using it but now i like IE7 it has everything i want in a browser well except for the oviouse things... only if IE7 was as easy to install as Firefox we would not be here now

    Thanks for the help

so what should i do reinstall xp sp2 when IE7 is uninstalled?

what exactly will happen when i uninstall will all my programs that i have installed get deleted?

  35. theefool

    theefool Geekified

When, xp sp2 is installed, you will not have to re-install all your programs. But, you should go to windows update, to make sure you are fully updated (If IE7 asks to be installed, click "install later" or " don't install". Then use IE6 to see if java works fine.

Also, I'd run (just to be on the safe side):
    Dial-a-fix
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4899

When you run the dial-a-fix program, press the "check-mark" button, then press the go button. A dialog will appear asking for date/time. Check to see if the date/time is correct, then press ok. The following process may take a bit of time.

Then, I'd go ahead and install IE7. Crossing fingers. :)

BTW, sorry for not posting earlier. :(

does that mean that all my music and videos will be deleted?

    :) MAKING PROGRESS!!:)

i uninstalled IE7 and replaced iertutil.dll with the one being used by IE7 when it was installed to get ride of the ordinal 56 error

after that i went to My Documents then in the address bar i typed in www.yahoo.com and it came up and everything worked except for www.youtube.com i still get the 'java is disabled or you have a old micromedia flash player installed' error

when i go to Start then click on Internet Explorer which the link has not changed since i uninstalled IE7 so it still says 'Launch Internet Explorer Browser'
and it is trying to open "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" which still exists even tho i uninstalled IE7... but when i click on it nothing happens

Also i can not access Internet Options i get this error

    http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/9474/untitledgq0.th.jpg

so basically IE7 messed up when uninstalling... right?... what would cause this?

reinstalled xp sp2 and ran the dial-a-fix here is the log

there was no keys in registry like that there was only the default key

the IE link in the start menu still does not work and i still have to open a folder then type a website in the address bar to get IE up

and i don't think java is working on IE6 anymore (not sure just yet because of the fact i need some sleep) but i will do more tests to see what does work and what does not (reinstall java and whatnot)

Okay, the repair/re-install within dial-a-fix is for IE6 only.

If I stated to run the repair/re-install of dial-a-fix with IE7 install, I apologize.

    On to the matter.

Right click on the IE7 Icon, then select properties (or internet properties).
Click the button "Delete" within browsing history, then click "delete all", then click the "yes" button.

Click the tab, security, is Internet set as default (if it is, it will be shadowed out, where you can't click it).

Click the privacy tab, is the default also shadowed out?

Click the advanced button, click "restore advanced settings" and click "reset". The reset button will reset to browser defaults.

Now, open IE7 and try again.

Also, I wish my help was a wee bit more helpful, then what I have given ye so far. :(

In addition, I should have asked a LONG time ago:

    What firewall do ye have?
What AV (AntiVirus) program do ye have?

Disable both, and see if it helps.
