Trying to help a friend with his PC. He hasn't brought it to me yet so I am going on what he said. WindowsAutomatic updates has been running and up date IE6 to IE7 and I assume the Outlook Express update as well. OK, so after they installed, he says Outlook Express works, but is funky? Not sure what that means but apparently there is an issue there. The biggest issue is IE7. He says he connects, dial up 21kps(slow like mine), and when he opens IE7, he says it locks up and just says connecting. He said he cannot click or do anything. He has to Cntrl, Alt, Del to shut it down. Anyclue. I download IE7 at work on my thumbdrive and took it home and installed it. I was wondering if the constant connecting, reconnecting over periods of weeks while AutoUpdates was loading, if that caused a corruption. He restored his machine back a few days before windows installed the updates, and he said everything worked fine then, but with IE6. I copied IE7 to his thumbdrive and told him to install it with that. Any clues or suggestions? Thank

    It's a Dell 2400, probably 3 years old. 2.8GHz, 384MRAM, 40 GHD, Windows XP SP2.......What else you need?

No video card or sound card, uses on board. He's not a computer person. He checks his email and because of his slow connection surfs the web more at work than at home but does use it some.

Please tell me you weren't serious with the Windows Update comment...

Well, keep it to yourself then, because it is not sound advice.

have your friend go to Tools>manage addons and disable all addons.

Then see if the problem persists.

I'll tell him to try that <addon thing. He did say he could open the tool folder. He's not real computer savy and just cannot answer specific questions because he doesn't know. I'm going to get him to install the IE7 I gave him to see if that makes a difference. I didn't have to do anything when I did it except disable "phishing filter" because of our already slow connection speeds. After that, he's just going to have to bring it to me so I can see for myself. Then I might have a more specifc question. I was happening someoone might have experienced something similar. I use Outlook and not Outlook Express so I'm not sure what is abnormal there. But he says it works so he might not even know if something is wrong, just that it's "funky", whatever he means by that.
