IE7 mysteries: where are the cookies? history?

Two questions... I dunno if they are related.

My cookies are being stashed somewhere unknown. Under IE7, when I look at the "settings" under IE7 "Tools", "History", it gives me a path name that SHOULD exist on a normal system, but is absent on my system. So, I go and start fishing about for ANY Internet Explorer Temporary files, which usually litter the landscape. none.... can't find a thing, even the one I am currently logged into typing this message.

MY cookies are there somewhere, 'cause all my secure sites come up with "welcome back!" or whatever. I go search and can't find anywhere, even with all the options "on"... hidden files, all file types, everything.

    Can someone enlighten me here?

Also, this is embarrassing.... in IE7, where is the "history" button hidden? on IE6 it was easy, right there on the toolbar, so I could find things I just visited 10 minutes ago, now I can't find any clue of a history button or switch or menu selection......

    thanks
    Zapp

For the history access it's actually now grouped under the Favorites Center (big yellow star>history button).... or ctrl+shift+h.

    edit:
Did you try clicking on the "View Files" button under tools>internet options>(browsing history) settings?
I believe you may have to delete just your Temporary Internet Files in order for the cookies to show up in the folder.

    AH! Gracias!

now.... where are the temporary's ?

and one more: I have old user accounts that were for temporary purposes, and I "deleted" them under control panel and it all seemed to go swell... they no longer show up in the "User Accounts" under "Control Panel". But they are still under the Documents and Settings tab. If I try to delete those remnants manually, I get an error that says something about "files in use by another user". I use XP Pro and its up to date. What is that alll about?

Hmm, I don't know about that one... I'm thinking that there are possibly system related files that are left over? Maybe you can delete them in Safe Mode (completely guessing). I don't know if there are any consequences either.

Try this to find the cookies
You must first unhide cookies folder, go to windows explorer/tools/folder option/view and uncheck hide protected system files click OK, then in windows explorer under documents and settings/your user account you will find your cookies folder

ok.... you nailed it. I thought I had unhidden everything, but no. what fooled me was seeing those folders; cookies, temporary internet files, history, under the mangled old user accounts, but not under the active one.
    lesson learned!
    thx!

now to solve the font issue, which is a diff thread
