IE7 or 8 will not connect but firefox does

OK here we go,

Old laptop crashed and burned, bought a new one. Luckily I made an image backup of my system. I restored the Image and completed a repair install for windows xp pro sp3, system runs great no issues

except 1

Firefox works great but IE7 or 8 will not display anything
"Internet Explorer cannot display webpage"

I ran the diog, it says i need to open port 80, ect

*No firewall or antivirus has been installed on the machine

what I have done
*I ran a kaspersky scan from my other machine
(took hard drive out and scanned it from that) nothing found

*verified in IE7 & 8 setting where all reseted and auto detect setting where both checked and unchecked

*verified in IE7 & 8 that proxy settings are disabled

*windows firewall is disabled (i also re enabled and disabled it)

*router was set as DMZ = nothing
*uninstalled aol broadband
*bridged modem and connected it directly to computer=nothing
***all failed
How the hell can I fix this?

I am certain it is a networking setting with in windows but im open to anything that works

Hi there Aaron have you checked your services to see if all the services are as they should be !
If your not sure click on the link and check them all and if any need changing do so, because sometimes they can cause issues with IE but not with FF !

To open services click start>run type in services.msc

Scroll down the page and on the left you'll see services listed for the OS you have !
