Greetings, I have Windows XP Professional, SP2, IE7................................. I am at a loss, as to whether this is a "Window" or "IE7" issue. I did talk to Dell :cry, and they told me it wasn't their problem, but a Microsoft problem... Now, you need to know just what the problem is. Well, I got this error on the BSOD 0xBAD0B148.... Dell told me it was because the Active X control was not working. Great, I figured. When I go to a particular website, that has emoticons that move they don't move on my computer.
But, I see on this site, that they do. :(. So, what do you think is going on? I did go to Microsoft Website, but got totally lost! Windows Update only shows one update, and that is SP3, and I am not sure if I am ready for that yet :(:tired Any advice out there? Thank you in advance, if anyone can figure it out!!!!! TeeCee :wave

Hmmmm.... something is amiss here.... BSOD error numbers look like this: 0x0000007F. I have been working on PCs for many, many years, and have never seen a BSOD error number that looked anything like yours: 0xBAD0B148. I have seen similar ones as a parameter of the primary error number. A parameter is one of the secondary numbers, almost always in parentheses. It would look something like this: 0x000000EA (0xBAD0B148, 0xparameter2, 0xparameter3, 0xparameter4). So yours would be parameter1. So, what we need is the actual main error code. The parameters are helpful, but the main number is what we really need to provide accurate help. I searched Microsoft for 0xBAD0B148 and found absolutely nothing. I mean nothing. No hits. Nothing even remotely or slightly or partially similar to that.

WOW! I guess! Maybe i should have pre-read that before submitting? :eek

OK, let's try it with a fresh mind:
    BLUE SCREEN STOP ERROR:
0xBAD0B148 (maybe I read it wrong and it should have been 0xBA00B148?)
    0x805BA00F
    0x0000000F
    0x00000000

Now, I contacted Dell, and they said that error was for the Active X Control. That it wasn't "their problem", but a Microsoft problem. ... Gee,, lots of help there! :confused Soooo, I started with Windows Update, and the ONLY update available is SP3.. My computer is set on AU, so it will do that automatically.

Secondly, all the :wave :hyper :p:p move when I am on this site, and they don't on one other site I go to. If my Active X was inactive, wouldn't that disable all moving animations? I am so :confused
Thank you for you r note, dlb, I should have been more clear....I hope this is more clear for you, as I couldn't find anything either. I was going by what Dell had told me. TeeCee

    Hi

Like dlb mentions we would need the full BSOD message to narrow the cause down, however if this is only happening in IE and on websites, then my initial thoughts are with indeed an activeX or other add-on in IE, so to test this out, goto Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons), go onto the net and visit the sites that caused this BSOD, are they now ok...?

note: an animations may not work so dont worry about that as all we are trying to do is see if its IE or an add-on causing this.

If your IE is ok, then one of the add-ons is causing this and the causes can be from a corrupt or old activeX addon or malware.

So do a malware scan, anything found?

Then Start IE normally again from your normal icon, goto Tools > Manage Add-ons and Enable Disable Add-ons, and Disable all of them, once disabled, start one at a time and test the websites that BSOD'd on you, continue with all in turn.

Hopefully we will locate the cause, but in many cases it can be old version of Flash, Java, Shockwave so update all of those.

Java Runtime http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sun_Java_Runtime_Environment_d4648.html ( note: do goto add/remove and uninstall all older versions of Java first )

    Flash Player http://www.majorgeeks.com/Adobe_Flash_Player_d5163.html

    Shockwave Player http://www.majorgeeks.com/Macromedia_Shockwave_Player_d4272.html

OK, here, I will have to start all over again.... I had it all written out, and clicked submit, and lost it! :eek
OK, the IE add-ons I have, are just the basics. Now, it says that all the following are "Enabled":
Adobe, SunJava Console, Shockwave Flash Object (Active X Control)

    Disabled: Windows messenger,

I don't have much as far as IE add-ons goes. I see the :clap are moving just fine on this site, and I only have that problem on one particular site.... Hmmm
when I sent a page via e-mail, I noticed this at the top of the message body:
Your browser either does not support JavaScript or it is turned off on your computer

Also, I did a search on my computer for Java Scripts, and came up with this:
one in settings, and one in Adobe.

here is the error I did manage to find:
    Windows Script
Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Java Scripts-Glbl Setting
    Line 1
    Cara 1
    Code 800A1391
    Source J Script Runtime Error

Now, does this make ANY sense to you at all? it sure is :confused to me!
Thank you thesmokingun, and Halo for your help. I did open Adobe, and clicked "check for updates", but was told there was no updates at this time. Now, I am really confused, so I do hope you can decipher this for me .
    Thank you, TeeCee

Hi Halo, so you want me to remove everything that says JAVA in it in the remove programs, and then go to the link Javaruntime and re-install? I'm just checking so I don't wreck something, and delete something I shouldn't have:(
What do you think the problem is? TeeCee

PS: Do I have to remove ALL JAVA stuf, or just certain things?

    I did find this: J 2 SE Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 6
that is a HUGE file. I am on dial-up, so I may even lose my connection just trying ro
    re-download that. Please advise.

    Hi TeeCee

Yes on uninstalling all JAVA references in Add/Remove then installing the latest Java as in Environment 6 Update 6.

IF your main error is Java Runtime, then its very likely you and I now know you have older version of Java, is a possible to the problem, so updating to latest version is next step in finding if this is so.

If your on dialup the you may wish to use a download manager as in this lite one, http://www.majorgeeks.com/Download_Express_d449.html helps if download is cutoff mid download, so you can resume.

    HI

Yes with Java removed you can surf the web ok, java enabled sites would be a little errata! as for lengh of time to DL I have no idea as I dont know your Download Speed! 16mb is likely on DUN a few hours tops.

as for what happened and new PC, well its from Dec so now nearly 6mths old so technology moves on and some websites need latest tech to work so latest Java maybe needed for these sites.

Hi Halo, I did some PC maintenance this evening, and now it is running just fine. I normally do that stuff (defrag, disc cleanup, CHKDSK, delete temp. Int. files, history, cookies) once a month. I did it this evening, and all I can say is, after doing all that, the system showed as "Clean", and "No Errors", but mainly, the deleting of cookies! That must have been it, because now I can see all the little animated things buzzing all over! I figured that my computer must have been using the OLD cookie from the site, BEFORE it got updated! What a Pain In The U-No-What! anyway, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your insight on this. The weird thing was, only one site was giving me grief! All the rest were loading and working just fine. All animations, etc. Thanks again, TeeCee :-D
