IE7...your thoughts.....

  1. I accedently downloaded IE7 this last updated I did and thought it was ok...like the tabs...miss a few buttons though. But it seemed to start freezing up and crashing almost anytime i ran with it for awhile. I've done all kinds of scans and stuff and no spy/maleware or viruses. Is anyone else having the same problem? I uninstalled it and went back to 6 (yes i use FF to) but my girl don't wanna try something new with the net??? And it does the same to her too. And I'm getting the blame...any thoughts about it?

Actually, I was kinda impressed with IE7 (never thought I'd say that about an MS browser). Liked the tabs, seemed fairly fast, didn't like the menu bar not being on top till I found a fix for that here at Major Geeks. Never did crash on me, but then I may not have used it long enough to see if it would crash.

Had to uninstall and go back to IE6 due to the fact that some dll files associated with IE7 were not compatible with my HP psc printer. Couldn't scan anymore with the all-in-one. Not MS fault. HP promises a patch for this problem but I won't hold my breath!

  3. I thought it was great compared to IE6 but it still does not hold up to Firefox or Opera.

I use IE7 on one of my machines and find it to be nothing great. Yeah sure it has the tabs but that is about it, sleek look, but threw the buttons all over the place. I can have everything in one window with FF and that works fine for me (itunes, weather, googletoolbar, etc)

IE7... I won't use it. It doesn't stand up to Firefox or lolifox (unique version of firefox). Not only that but I hear that it causes problems with Outlook. I read a review from a guy who downloaded it and it caused XP to crash... I didn't know that was possible.

If IE7 is freezing, check all programs for an "Internet Explorer no add-ons mode" icon, or if it's not there, go to tools->options->program files, click on manage add-ons, disable all add-ons. If it works, turn them on one at a time until you find out what is causing the problem.

There is also a "reset internet explorer settings" button under tools->options advanced, too, which fixes most IE problems. It will reset your homepage to default and pooches any add-ons (such as toolbars, etc) you might have as well, so you will probably need to reinstall add-ons and change the homepage back if you use it.

    Best of luck!

Even my wife immediately noticed that it was slow, I was suprised, she does not seem to like the new layout much either, I think they changed it too much, baby steps, not a complete overhaul so every time you want your home page, you have to think about. I still use Maxthon, so no biggie to me, but given a choice, I would go Firefox.

it seems to me that lolifox (www.lolifox.com is where you can download it) is even faster than firefox. I'll use a puny example, my download speed on my dial up on firefox is 1.2-1.5 kps, on the lolifox download manager it gets 2-2.8 kps. if you have a faster connection it may not make a difference, but to me it is worth clicking the other icon. IE7 is also having some security issues is the rumor.

Every installation of IE7 seems to work fine here!

Although, I haven't had the courage to install it on anything but a clean install of Windows

I approve of the phishing filter, although, I have some doubts about its effectiveness.

Apart from that, I'd say the new "features" are just fluff.

It works fine for me and yea it's got many features that were needed by today's browser standards. I for one am happy that I've discovered the beauty of FireFox and won't be switching back to IE ever again. However, I'm happy that the many IE users out there are finally getting a much-deserved upgrade in both browsing quality and security. 'twas about time.
