Hello. I am having trouble connecting to the internet on one of my computers at work. This just started last Wednesday. I have found some suggestions here, but I’m still having trouble.

I am running Windows XP and IE7. When trying to open access the internet I get an error
message: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and then It says: res: ieframe.dll/dnserror.htm.

I have tried:

Open your internet explorer then go to TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS then SECURITY and then uncheck the ENABLE PROTECTED MODE options then close and open your IE7
Whenever I try to go to TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS then SECURITY, there is NO ENABLE PROTECTED MODE option.

There is:

a globe that has ‘Internet’ under it, a globe behind a monitor with ‘Local intranet’ under it, a green dot with a white check mark with ‘Trusted sites’ under it and a red dot with a white minus mark with ‘Restricted sites’ under it.
Where do I find the “ENABLE PROTECTED MODE option” to uncheck it?

Up until last Wednesday, everything was working fine. Nothing new has been installed.

How do fix this?

oh..... sorry. Any reason for my problem? I suspect it is spyware. I have Norton, but I can't update it because I can't get out. However, my network settings say I've got excellent connectivity.

 

I have a suggestion. You said it was a possible spyware screwup. Get it cleaned up as Kestrel13! said. Then if it still doesn't work right. Download this app (IEFix) http://majorgeeks.com/IEFix_d4467.html
and run it. It repairs probs in IE. Actually, you could try it first, but should still get checked out for malware.
