I have just downloaded and installed Internet Explorer 7, after being prompted to do so whilst on the net last night.
It is now up and running but has black boxes/bars where the grey boxes are supposed to be in the taskbar at the top. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but with no avail. I have also tried interfering with my display settings, which has also not helped. I have attached a screenshot to this message so you can see what I am going on about.
    Any ideas??

I'm not sure what grey boxes you mean. Can you explain further?
Do you perhaps mean that aside of the address url, you wish to see more than just the forward and back icons?

No it's not that, allow me to ellaborate.
The IE page is made up of different bits at the top, the page title with minimise, close, etc in the top right corner. Underneath is the URL, the forward and back buttons, refresh, stop, etc.
All of these are embedded in the standard "windows grey" background.
There is the option of having further buttons, such as home, RSS, tools, MSN, etc. These are also grey buttons on a grey background.
On my IE, however there appears to be an error, all of the "free space" where there are no buttons are black lines (see the picture attached to this post) instead of the standard grey background. Around the blacklines you can actually see through to the page behind. This is obviously some sort of error.
It is irritating rather than interfering with the functionality.
I googled the problem before submitting this post and it appears to happen to other people, however, the only solution seems to be removing IE7 and using something else. This is not really a solution!! If you have a look at the picture you will see what I mean.

Thanks for taking the time to reply though, appreciate it!!

Are you sure it isn't related to a windows theme you are using? IE is joined at the hip to windows so windows settings can affect IE.
I did look at your shot before I posted but since I don't run XP nor IE 7, I don't have anything to compare your shot with.

I have tried altering the Windows display settings, including the resolution and the themes, to no avail. The black bars are actually "holes", i.e. the only reason they are black is because that is the colour of my desktop background.
If my background was blue, the bars would be blue also. Do you have any idea which display settings may change or alter this? I have tried quite a few changes but I am just guessing really.

    Hi

As it looks as if from your screenshot your using a non-standard XP theme it could be that which is cauing this graphical issue in IE7, to test try a standard XP theme, reboot and does IE7 look ok? ( I know you mentioned changing themes but were they to the original MS ones )

You may need to uninstall IE7 then change the theme to the XP default one, reboot and re-install IE7, does it change then?
