A little.

Clean interface. Looks like IE7. Can import from Firefox now

As for performance, it runs a javascript test I ran before 4 times faster than IE7.

As for speed, its quick, but...rendering isnt so hot amongst some sites. I need to research more, I think maybe its that IE8 standards mode? Anyway, Im running it in the emulate IE7 mode due to rendering problems on this forum.

The Internet Explorer 8 Developer Beta is optimized for developing sites in standards mode.
Click the http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie8/welcome/en/images/EmulateIE7.png Emulate IE7 button in the command bar to browse the web like you did in Internet Explorer 7.

So, IE8 runs in standards mode by default.

I have IE 8 beta 1 installed at work (running xp sp3). At home, I installed IE 8 beta 1 x64. Some weird stuff going on in each.

Haven't really played with it much.

 

Its probably the Standards mode.

This forum doesnt render right with it at all.

One feature that I do like, a lot, is how the browser identifies the main site in a URL. Screenshot incoming.

Question

My parents still use IE6 because it is what they are used to and they didn't like trying to switch to IE7.

How long will IE6 be reliable after IE8 goes final? In other words how much longer until I insist they update?

 

My parents use IE7 (52 (mom) 61 (dad).

I didn't see the import for FF when I installed IE8. Though, I'm not running FF, just minefield (FF 3.0beta5). That is probably the reason.

 

Im not sure. Its been out since 2001, but....

MS adds between 1-2 years support after every service pack of a browser.

So, assuming SP3 in XP updates IE to SP3--you got at least a year or two.

There are different versions of IE8 Beta 1 for XP and Vista.

I tried the IE8 beta out on Vista 64 bit, but it found it almost unusable with highlighting and some allignment problems on most websites. Other than that it does run faster and the images appear to look better on web pages. I'll wait until the next beta version is released to see how the rendering is working then.

 

About IE 6 :
I'm running windows 2K in extended support, which will end July 13 2010. Since IE 7 can't run on 2K, MS will probably support it through that date.

If your parents haven't switched to IE7 by then, get them familiar with FF or Opera.
