Is it possible for someone to create a third party web browser using the
IE8 web\rendering engine with a better ui that can be used as a seperate
browser like Firefox but still uses the temp internet folder, history and
favorites folder that IE8 uses? Is that allowed and has someone enquired
about doing it at the MS tech forums, etc and tried to make it...?

Yes... Maxthon is an Internet Explorer-based third party web browser and is available for download here at Major Geeks. Once downloaded you can easily "Import Favorites" from IE8.

    Good Luck!

Thanks but I am looking for an browser app like firefox but uses the IE8 web render engine thats better but still uses the temp internet folder, favorites folder,etc... without having to import stuff like my url's from favorites folder,etc...

I have tried maxthon but I wasn't impressed at all.The thing is I would like to install IE8 as a seperate install as I want to keep IE6 because of the better ui and the image toolbar but can't.Thats why I am asking about it.

Firefox is not a Browser App. Firefox is a browser like Internet Explorer. You can choose to use Maxthon or use IE. There is no in between. Also Firefox has various flavors that are more secure than the base model, but the interface will still be pretty much the same under the hood. Same goes for IE.

What do you want in IE 8 that you are not getting?

    IE 8 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._Explorer_8.png/800px-Internet_Explorer_8.png
The words File Edit View Favorites Tools and Help can be shown in IE 8 (I have them showing on mine).

I changed the search engine from Bing to Google too.

I'd advise you to get rid of IE 6; it is just too insecure.

Well I would like a better UI with the ability to hide\show the search box and the return of the image toolbox as I use it quite often in IE6 and it has been a huge help in getting some pictures.I know that you can have the file edit toolbar, etc... shown and I have the registry fix for IE7\8 to move it to the top of the program where it should be.Also the ability to turn off graphics acceleration as my pc atm is badly messed up and can't handle anything like much graphics and I have had to turn off a lot of the graphics performance items just for windows to load fully.

I would love to upgrade because of some of the new ui stuff but can't risk it. :(

    Thanks.

    Copy/paste this into notepad
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Infodelivery\Restrictions]
    "NoSearchBox"=dword:00000001
    Save it as hideseachIE8.reg
Click on it to merge it into your registry. The search box is gone.
If you decide you want it back, change the value from 1 to 0 and it will reappear.

I am not familiar with image toolbar so I can't help you with that.

Thanks. With something so simple like that .reg shortcut why on earth couldn't MS do that themselves?I did look once a while ago at the ms site for IE8 stuff but could not find an addon like the image toolbar. If that ever happened I would re-install IE8 and it's updates.

Yesterday when I was online and I went to add a topic to my book marks I rediscovered one of the major reasons why I un-installed IE8.Instead of getting access to the usual tree like view mode to easy scoll down to the folder\sub folder I wanted to add the bookmark to instead I got a long vertical list of all the 60+ folders\sub folders I have in the favorites folder which took me a while to find the right folder. :(

Is there a fix to get the tree like view mode like in IE6 as if not then I will un-install IE8 ASAP as I can't waste my time like that and I don't have the willpower to go through that each time I would like to add a bookmark to... :( :( :(

I found another way to add the google search provider to IE8.Have to disable compatibility view mode to install this addon through IE8.

This is my first time using maxthon 3 browser and to be honest I really like it and I think I'm going to be sticking with it more often.
