in the course of surfing some 200 sites or so, i made note of something i rly wanted to keep...but mucked up the filesave. so i'd like to puruse the list of sites i've visited, that it might jump out at me again.

the pulldown in my [IE9] addy bar only reveals the last 5, followed by a "history" section which has hundreds and hundreds of entries...but they arent WEBSITES! it's a list of files i've DOWNLOADED today. what the...?!

help points me to favorites>>history, which has great choices of sites visited: "today", "yesterday" "last week" "last month" etc., but again, looking at the many many entries under "today", they're all filenames! again - WHAT THE?!

nothing resembling an URL in there. no amazon, no wiki, no majorgeeks.

to be fair, about HALF of the entries are "xxxx.tmp" files, which i guess represent website images. they do not OPEN, however, so we're back to zero.

HOW can i see the list of pages i've visited?!

i'll be careful not to close my browser until some kind soul responds.

    thank you!

    [IE9/w7]

Do you have the 'History' button on Internet Explorer?

See my image (IE8); it lists all the websites I visited today. Each site has a folder, listing the individual pages. When I click on a page, it actually goes to that page.

sorry for the delay. got locked out this week.

anyway, yes, i have that, but almost all of the entries "today", "yesteray", "2 weeks ago", etc., have the lone folder "computer", which is full of dozens and dozens of...FILES, not urls! .txt, .pdf., .jpg, .flv etc -- stuff i recognize as having DLed**, but no signs of the source URLs, or the (hundreds of) URLs of sites i visited without DLing stuff like this.

for example, i DLed a copy of your screenshot, and THAT is in there. but no signs of "majorgeeks" or affiliated URLs. except (again) if it's represented by one of the many many "xxxxxx.tmp" files.

**on second thought, most of these files i have opened/edited/resaved recently, but have nothing to do with DLing! this whole thing looks like what i'd expect as my EXPLORER history, not any browser history.

i am IN my browser, definitely, but do i have something set wrong such that history is recording/reading the wrong thing?

yeah, definitely looks like an "explorer" history....

PS: do you have that "computer" folder for each of those days? perhaps that is as it should be (some kind of "explorer" history) and what i'm missing is actually separate, loose, entries parallel to that. due to some sort of "history flush" privacy setting?

i have IE privacy set to "medium", which doesn't sound like auto-flush. plus "delete browsing history on exit" is UNchecked. and "days to keep pages in history" is set to 20.

overridden by a similar setting somewhere else?! where else to look?
