well that error code doesn't say anything.. Checking on Event log might help you to see what is the actual error > Control Panel > Administrator Tools > Event Log...

either way.. I think best thing for you would be to get IE Installer from Microsoft and restore defaults/reinstall IE would probably solve the problem easiest way... If you do reinstall IE I am not sure does it save Favorites so.. Save those to somewhere just in case hehe...

To un/reinstall Internet Explorer, please follow these steps:

    1. Open 'Control Panel'
    2. Double-click the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon (or single-click the link)
    3. Hit alt+w (or click 'Add/Remove Windows Components')
    4. On the 'Windows Components Wizard' dialog, uncheck the box next to 'Internet Explorer'
    5. Click 'Next'

Windows will now uninstall Internet Explorer. It is the same process to re-install, only check the box this time around.

There is also a IE repair utility called IEFix that may be able to help your situation.

As Mada suggested, try IEFix, also give Dial_A_Fix a shot... it's worked in the past for similar probs.... It wouldn't hurt to try Cexx's LSP Repair tool also.

    Mada_Milty:
No... I he uninstalls the IE he can have evn bigger problems since it's allready broken who knows what it does with IE 5.5..

    soul.so2:
Do not uninstall IE6 or what ever you got.. Install right over and restore default.. So just run the IE6Setup from microsoftand when it asks what to do just Install.. It'll overwrite the files & restore default settings.

IEFix and Dial what eevr don't even know these and never had an problem, but i trust what the dude apove says..;) I personally would install Spybot and it's IE plugin and definedly scan the machine with spybot after installing IE again before running it.

Dude, what are you on about?

Reinstalling IE through Windows Components will not make things worse, thank you. Its Microsofts built in way of reinstalling their app. All this procedure does is replace IEs core files with (hopefully) good versions from Windows cache.

IEFix does the same, but with KNOWN good copies from a Windows installation disk.

YOU ARE SUGGESTING PRACTICALLY THE SAME THING
Only the long way - your copies of these files are coming from a Microsoft server

    Wow.
That was very flattering, dromano, but I am hardly the end-all, know-all of technology.

I'm not asking RPG to bow to my iron fisted rule (as cool as that would be - :D j/k), but just to back up his claims.

Soul.so2 can take the advice of whomever he feels has provided the most accurate suggestion for his situation.

I don't really care who is there in other end, If she/he has no point and no I am still saying uninstalling IE can make the things worst. 'we all LISTEN' I have been here since 1976 and I sure as hell know what I am talking about there where anyone here.

Windows cache can be cleared with one command line, if it would of been that we could of just say to clean the cache. About making things worst what's the worst, but for adding old version back and let the current problems dwell on that.. Hell that could even result as you said it's a core > impossible to install IE back. Which is really alot worst what state the author is now.. No I am still sticking what I said and that's to reinstall new IE straight on top of the current one to reset defaults.

I also checked this IEFix tool and it indeed adds files back from Install CD which is even more idiotic than the uninstalling.

    and about this one:

Yeah, of course I am suggesting that. Why should this dude get some crappy old versions when he can have the newest security by same instance? Which probably also solves the problem better.

Personally I'd start by uninstalling any yahoo toolbars, bho's and probably yahoo messenger messenger and reinstalling them first.

Yahoo integrates itself into outlook and Internet Explorer using toolbars and extra context menu items and could quite easily be the issue here and not IE.

Whilst it may not be the problem, its probably a good place to start.

What?!?! Where are you coming from here? This is like saying I shouldn't replace my the worn brakes on my car with stock from the manufacturer. It just doesn't make sense.

It really isn't any more idiotic than your own suggestion. You DON'T get the latest and greatest. You'll get a standard build of Internet explorer that matches your own (ie. DAMN close if not identical to what IEFix will give you), and then you will still need to update from there.

I'm not suggesting that the user uninstall IE, then surf on the remainders until he can get around to RE installing. I can see you having a point if this were the case, but simply uninstalling infected/damaged/corrupted files with good stock is NOT A BAD IDEA. It won't do any more harm than what's already done. I'm confident of this; I work with multiple IE installations on a daily basis.

Funny thing here is that Mada_Milty is as correct as I am.. Exceptiong that in Mada_Milty version user uninstalls & reinstalls + updates (and wishes that everythign is corrected) and in my version user downloads > reinstalls all components again from newest IE and both methods needs spyware scan absolute..;)

and yeah nice add there matt.chugg

I am truly sorry it's so unprofessional fight with someone who I know knows as good if not even better than I do softwares... Apology for my behavior..
